NOW & THEN — GEA, THEY STILL FLY ’26
In 2014, I photographed my wife, Liz, and our son, RJ, walking through Sunset Place; his little hand in hers, balloons above them, and an entire future ahead.
Twelve years later, we returned to recreate that moment. Back then, RJ was a little boy looking up at his mother.
Today, he is a high school senior preparing to graduate, step into adulthood, and begin building a future of his own.
The little hand she once held has grown. The bond between them has grown with it.
I have watched RJ develop his own personality, interests, strengths, and direction. I have also watched Liz remain beside him—encouraging him, sacrificing for him, believing in him, and reminding him that he has what it takes to keep moving forward.
Then, they walked hand in hand. Now, they walk side by side. Soon, he will take steps that belong to him—and we will have the privilege of watching this arrow fly.
Sunset Place itself may soon become part of Miami’s history. That makes these photographs even more meaningful. Photography gives time and memories somewhere to live.
Places change.
Children grow.
Relationships mature.
Photographs carry the story forward.
This felt like the right story for Then‑Gea Photography’s re-entry into the digital space: a reflection of where we began, where we are, and where we are going.
We are back behind the lens ready to steward the gift God has given us by helping families, individuals, ministries, and businesses preserve the chapters that matter.
