Hey friends who haven't stayed in touch...I HAVE BRAIN CANCER!
This is the type of brain cancer for which there is no cure. I went to Baptist Hospital on June 6th for a quick checkup. They gave me a room and said that they have to keep me. Six days later, they performed a 7 hour brain surgery on me to remove as much of the cancer as they could find.
They had to wake me up during the surgery so that they could ensure that they weren't messing with anything that would take it's toll on my brain. I watched the surgery on TV, spoke with the surgeon, and I made two phone calls during the surgery. When they were done I asked them to keep me awake. They were surprised and it was sort of weird to watch them attaching the sutures inside my head and the 50 staples on the outside.
Anyway, June was one of the biggest months of my life. My son and his girlfriend have been amazing!!! He told me to go to the hospital and he was here the day after I arrived. He helped me decide to move to Denver where they have a top notch Cancer Center here. Yes, an hour after the surgery, I was walking around the hospital and I was able to continue to function. With the help of my son, I was able to move everything in my life (other than my boat) to Denver before the end of the month.
I had the best care at Baptist Hospital and now I have the best treatment at UCHealth in Denver where I will be for the...rest of my life.
One last thing, the median life expectancy for me is now from two months (when I arrived at Baptist) to 15 months (after my surgery on June 12th). I seriously plan to beat the 15 months!
