Walking into The Latina Expo wearing my red suit and hat was not simply a fashion choice. ¡Claro que no! It was my way of showing up with confidence, personality, and full presence. Latina, Venezuelan, and very Leslie. 🇻🇪✨ Thank you, Latina Expo, for the invitation to speak!

As a Miami photographer and Public Image specialist, I was invited to speak about first impressions, professional image, and how we communicate who we are.

Your image may start the conversation, but you also need the clarity and confidence to communicate your brand verbally. People should be able to see your value and hear it when you speak.

I also have to thank my beautiful community Mujeres en Tarima🎙️Public Speaking for giving me a space to practice, strengthen my speaking skills, and fully own my voice. 🎤🔥(check out their account and learn how to be part of it!)

What I bring to the table is also shaped by my story. I grew up Venezuelan, with a mother whose American upbringing taught me how to embrace different cultures while staying deeply connected to my own.

Being Latina shapes the warmth, intuition, and sensitivity I bring to my work. And in Miami, a multicultural city built from different accents and stories, that perspective matters. 🌎❤️

Lately, some of my friends have been telling me, “Leslie, your Instagram has changed so much!”

After years in my career, I knew what I did and what I could offer—but knowing your expertise and knowing how to communicate it through content are two very different things.

A good photographer doesn’t simply show you how you look. A good photographer allows you to truly see yourself.

The first time I had professional photos taken, I was 22 and living in Caracas. I needed the photographs for castings.

Caracas was an incredible city then—full of culture and known for its remarkable film, television, and advertising industry.

This photograph was taken by the late Bill Day, one of the best photographers in Caracas.

I had no experience, but Bill guided me and made me feel FABULOUS. He loved the photos so much that he booked me for my first job.

That session transformed the way I saw myself, and in many ways, helped shape the woman I would become.

I really don’t want to overcome this. 🇻🇪

It has been a week and two days, and I still wake up with the same knot in my stomach. I’ve gone through shock, sadness, anger, hope… and then right back to shock.

The truth is, I don’t want to normalize what is happening in Venezuela. I don’t want the algorithm, the news cycle, or the passing of time to make us forget. The emergency isn’t over. The need for help will continue long after the cameras are gone.

But I also know something else.

I need to start bringing balance back to this space. Not because I’ve moved on—but because I haven’t.

My work is part of who I am. Creating, photographing, telling stories, building my business… those things also have purpose. My values have not changed. If anything, this past week has reminded me even more of why I do what I do: to connect with people, to serve, and to build something that allows me to give back.

If you’re feeling guilty about returning to work, promoting your business, or smiling again… you’re not alone. I’ve been struggling with those same feelings.

Please tell me how you’re doing. I genuinely want to know. I promise I’ll read every comment and reply because I think many of us need to feel less alone right now.

We have to stay emotionally strong. We also have to stay financially strong. it allows us to continue helping, donating, supporting, and showing up for the people who need us.

My heart is still in Venezuela. Always. ❤️🇻🇪

It’s really about sharing the right message about who you are. 🖤

Even before someone reads your bio or hears your story, they’re already picking up on your posture, your expression, your style, your colors, and the energy you bring. 👀✨

What do I really want to communicate?

Today was the day to reconnect with the vibrant business ecosystem in Venezuela. 🇻🇪It was a chance to see and hug so many dear friends and meet people who are working hard to make sense of so much that has happened in Venezuela this year. My heart ❤️ is full of so much hope and optimism after seeing so many projects, businesses, and investors coming together to bring the conversation to the table. There is so much work to do, but it comes with the people willing to do it, the community, the knowledge, and the potential investment to bring it forward. It makes me want to join the movement and help rebuild our country. Thanks, God, for J3rd.
