Regardless of style, most experienced newborn photographers agree on these:
1. Baby safety always comes before the photograph.
This is probably the one thing every respected newborn photographer agrees on.
A beautiful pose is never worth compromising a baby’s comfort or safety. If a baby resists a pose, we move on. If they’re hungry, we feed them. If they need to be held, we pause.
The best photographers know when not to take the picture.
2. Simplicity ages better than trends.
You may love elaborate sets or whimsical themes, but when families come back 10 or 20 years later, it’s almost always the simple, timeless portraits they treasure the most.
That’s one reason our neutral style has such staying power.
3. Patience is a skill, not a personality trait.
People often think newborn photography is about cameras.
Veteran photographers know it’s about patience.
You can spend 20 minutes waiting for a baby to settle just to photograph for 30 seconds.
Years from now, I hope these photographs remind you not only of how tiny they were, but also of how gently they were cared for.
