I am excited to welcome Trent Sizemore to the County-Courier as a summer intern.

Some of you all met Trent today when he went with me to cover the Middlesboro Football camp and the Bell County Chamber of Commerce First Friday Luncheon! He will be the one to post those photos later.

Many of you may already know Trent through his photography work with .Visuals on instagram, where he has captured local events and community activities through his lens. He is also involved with the Mountain Lion Media Network at the Pineville Independent School District, where he has gained experience in photography and media.

This summer, Trent will be helping me with photography and event coverage as we continue working to bring local news and community stories to our readers. He has already been out covering events and taking photos, and many of you have likely seen some of his work appearing on the County-Courier page.

I am excited to have Trent on board and look forward to seeing his skills continue to grow. Be sure to watch for his work on the County-Courier page and in upcoming editions of the newspaper throughout the summer.

Anyone who knows Alicia Cima-Slusher knows she is always willing to help.

Whether it is decorating for an event, helping with a cleanup project, pulling weeds downtown, setting up for a festival, or lending a hand wherever it is needed, Alicia is someone who shows up. She doesn’t do it for recognition. She does it because she loves Pineville.

That dedication was recently recognized when Alicia was named the 2026 Main Street Volunteer of the Year by the Kentucky Main Street Association.

As a member of the Pineville City Council and a longtime supporter of Main Street Pineville, Alicia has spent countless hours working behind the scenes to help make community events and downtown projects successful. Many of the things people enjoy throughout the year would not be possible without volunteers like her.

Those who know Alicia know she is passionate and takes pride in helping make Pineville the best it can be. Her willingness to give her time, energy, and talents has made a difference in the community and has not gone unnoticed.

Congratulations to Alicia Slusher on this well deserved honor. It is a recognition of the hard work, heart, and commitment she brings to Pineville every day.

A project years in the making has earned statewide recognition for helping transform the heart of downtown Pineville.

The City of Pineville’s Courthouse Square Streetscape Project was recently named the recipient of the 2026 Best Outdoor Space Improvement Award by the Kentucky Main Street Association. The award recognizes projects that enhance public spaces while preserving the character and charm of downtown communities.

Centered around the historic Bell County Courthouse Square, the project brought a variety of improvements designed to make the downtown for Main Street Pineville more attractive, accessible, and welcoming. Enhancements included updated sidewalks, landscaping, decorative streetscape features, infrastructure improvements, and upgrades aimed at creating a more pedestrian friendly environment for residents and visitors.

The project represented a collaborative effort among local, state, and community leaders who shared a vision of investing in Pineville’s downtown while preserving its historic identity. Through years of planning, funding efforts, and construction, that vision became a reality.

Those recognized during the awards ceremony included Pineville Mayor Shawn Fugate II , former Main Street Pineville Director Jacob Roan, and State Senator Scott Madon, Kentucky’s 29th District. Their leadership, along with the contributions of many others, helped guide the project from concept to completion.

Today, the courthouse square serves as a focal point for community events, festivals, local businesses, and visitors exploring downtown Pineville. The statewide recognition highlights not only the success of the streetscape improvements, but also the community’s continued commitment to preserving and enhancing one of Pineville’s most treasured public spaces.

The award stands as a testament to what can be accomplished when a community comes together with a shared vision for its future.

Special thank you to Brian O'Brien at The Big ONE 106.3 FM WRIL for the streetscape construction photo and Main Street Pineville Director Candace Tingen for the photo of Mayor Fugate, Jacob Roan, and Senator Madon.

For 10 years, Gem City Cakes has been a familiar part of downtown Pineville, serving customers and helping create countless memories for birthdays, weddings, celebrations, and special occasions throughout the community.

Owner Jennifer Amburgy is being recognized for her contributions to Main Street Pineville after being named the recipient of the 2026 Spirit of Main Street Business Award by the Kentucky Main Street Association.

Reaching a decade in business is an accomplishment that speaks to hard work, dedication, and the support of a loyal community. Over the years, Gem City Cakes has become a well known part of downtown Pineville, with Jennifer building a reputation for quality, creativity, and customer service.

The award recognizes business owners who help strengthen their downtown districts through their investment, involvement, and commitment to their communities. In addition to operating a successful business, Jennifer has also been involved in supporting efforts that promote and enhance downtown Pineville.

As Gem City Cakes celebrates its 10th anniversary, the recognition serves as a reminder of the important role small businesses play in the success and character of local communities.

Congratulations to Jennifer Amburgy on this well deserved honor and on 10 years of serving the Pineville community through Gem City Cakes!!!

It seems like just yesterday Ashley Cambron was standing in downtown Middlesboro with a pair of scissors in hand, cutting the ribbon and officially opening Cambron Charcuterie Co. On November 10, 2025, her business became an official part of the Middlesboro Main Street.

Fast forward just a few months, and Ashley is now being recognized across the state as the 2026 Entrepreneur of the Year by the Kentucky Main Street Association.

For those who know Ashley, this honor comes as no surprise. Since opening her doors, she has poured her heart into her business, creating not only beautiful charcuterie boards but also a welcoming place that has become part of the downtown community. Her passion, hard work, and determination have helped turn a dream into a thriving business in a remarkably short time.

It’s always special to see local people succeed, and Ashley’s journey from ribbon cutting day to a statewide award winner is something Middlesboro can be proud of. Congratulations, Ashley, on this well-deserved recognition.

I am so proud of you and can’t wait to see where your journey takes you next.
