There was something about this evening that felt like we had stepped into a little world of our own. 🌿
Just before our session, thunderstorms had been moving through the area. But right around the time we were supposed to begin, the skies cleared and somehow we ended up having the Wildflower Lookout almost completely to ourselves.
And honestly, I couldn’t have imagined a better setting for these two.
We played folk music throughout the session, walked through the flower fields, explored different little corners of the lookout and simply took our time. Between the music, the breeze, the wildflowers and all the green surrounding us, there were moments when it genuinely felt like we were creating scenes from a movie.
And even her engagement ring had its own little piece of the story. It was custom made by Neill Walsh Goldsmiths , and of course I had to take a moment to photograph all those beautiful details. 💍
They admitted they were a little nervous about being in front of the camera at first—which is completely normal—but there was also one unexpected little person helping with that. 😂
My daughter, who was 9 at the time, tagged along with me that evening. She helped me with some BTS videos and even picked up my second camera to take a few photographs of her own. By the end, they told me that having her there was actually the perfect distraction from their nerves.
Sometimes my favorite sessions are the ones where we don’t feel like we have to rush from one photograph to the next.
We can put some music on, walk around, talk, laugh, try something, change our minds, and simply let the evening unfold.
And that’s what this engagement session felt like to me.
Relaxing. A little whimsical. A little adventurous. And somehow, with the folk music playing through those fields, a little bit like we were inside their own movie. 🤍
