Yesterday I was going through a box of old photos at my parents house and it reminded me how important it is to take photos.
There were so many photos of me and my siblings as babies and little kids. I was reminded of the house I grew up in and how it has changed so much over the years. The nostalgia of what my bedroom looked like full of care bears and then walls covered in posters of boy bands. There were photos of my parents as teenagers, young and in love, photos of their wedding and honeymoon. It was amazing to hear my mom tell the stories behind the photos.
It was such an eye opening experience for me. Like “they’re just photos”. But they’re not. These photos brought back SO many memories and told SO many stories that literally bring you back in time. I saw a photo of my mother pregnant with ME and I was literally in awe, I feel like sometimes we forget that this is our parents first time doing life as well and that they lived an entire lifetime before we came along.
I thought to myself, I hope one day all the children of the mamas i’ve taken photos of can look back and see how beautiful their mother was when they were carrying them. This isnt meant to be a sales pitch of like come do a photoshoot, but a reminder to just take the photos. Make the memories. They last even when memories fade.
