I know I might be slightly biased, but my cousin makes the most beautiful babies! This sky presented itself at our annual post Thanksgiving-Huvar girls lunch. I try to have my camera with my most of the time (luckily I did this day) but if not, I can still get great post-worthy photos using my phone's camera. The secret is to use Lindsey Martin Photography presets. She even has a club now, y'all; LMP Preset Club. They are amazing and will completely up your phone photos game! 📷📱

5 months since my Daddy went to Heaven. Boys and I were treated to a slice of the golden sunrise this morning before the rain moved in; and I know that was him saying good morning. Love you daddy ❤️‍🩹

Halloween mocktail for my boys! I’m calling it the Michael Myers.

I’ve been told it gets boring only drinking water, tea, or soda; so I’ve started to experiment with some yummy non alcoholic ingredients to give my non drinking family members some options. Pinterest has been great, I follow MockTail Mama on Instagram-anyone have any other good recipes or people to follow? Thanks and have a fantastic Halloween! ⚰️🪦🧹😈🤡🎃👻💀☠️👽

These kids. B E S T I E S since JK. Thats Jk, K, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and now 4th grade-5 years! I didn't have that growing up; the friend I could say I knew since I was 4, neither did my husband. It was one of the things we were determined our kids would be able to say, "Oh yeah, Sarah has been my best friend since we were 4!" I know lifelong friendships aren't always those who develop in school (2 of the gals I call my best friends I met after college-at work and my neighbor), but I never had the opportunity to say that. Is that trivial? Shallow? Not important? Maybe, possibly, and honestly, more than likely true. But it's one of the things I really struggled with-being the new girl-i. e. moved from AZ back to VA in 7th. freaking. grade. That was super fun 😏 As an adult, I can say "holy s**t, I experienced some amazing stuff." And that's what kids remember y'all....the experiences. They don't need more "stuff," they need to experience things, see things that will move their souls and stop their hearts with the beauty of it all. Give them that. It means more than a video game or the latest pair of Jordans they will outgrow in a few months.

Cooking is something I was scared of, but have grown to love. Just seeing all those separate, raw ingredients marry together to make a single delish dish-whew! Never ceases to amaze me. I love my mashed potatoes. And full disclosure, I will make my taters at every. Possibly. Opportunity. I’m frequently asked for my recipe. Well, I don’t really know y’all 😂 I fail to really measure anything. I listen to my ancestors 😀😂 just start with red potatoes, peel 3/4 of them. Add butter (duh) and salt. Lots and lots of salt; more than you think you will need. Those carbs absolutely sop up the salt-but taste as you go until you get to your taste buds’ happy place. I usually throw in a scoop or 2 or sour cream, a splash or 3 of milk, 1/2 and 1/2, heavy cream (whatever you’ve got), and peppa. So namaste my fellow tater lovers, carbs on Friday don’t count 😆😆😆

So there is this song by Miranda Lambert, about the house the built me. Looking back, as an adult, I can see I was blessed to have more than one. Although, my 8 and 12 year old self would not have agreed with the adult me. Not including from birth-7 when I lived in chesterfield and NoVA; or 12-present when we moved back to central VA. I moved…and it was a lot when I was growing up. Different sides of the country, different states, different regions and environments; it’s a lot for what is now termed a “tween.” And I honestly struggled with it. I am orderly. I like to know what’s going to happen and when-and maybe all the change in my childhood is why I am like that now. But wow, I wouldn’t change my experiences for ANYTHING. Few people can say they moved from the NW corner of Montana, a mere 40 min from Canada with moose and bears walking through their yards; to the epicenter of the SE desert in Phoenix, AZ-within a matter of days. I had to switch from snow from August to April, mountain lions and grizzly bears; to monsoons, coyotes, and rattlesnakes. It was hard. More so on my parents than I realized. I can see that now. But I have these amazing experiences I can show my boys and husband. We can drive up to a house I lived in in 1994, and I can say “I learned how to ice skate on that pond across the street on the golf course.” I can’t wait to take them to Phoenix and say “this is the house I lived in when it was 75° on Christmas and a hummingbird flew into our open sliding glass door to try to get sweet nectar from a Christmas ornament.” So few can say that from one year to the next. Embrace it all. Love it all, even when it’s hard. Because, one day, we will all see, it’s what built you.
