Being behind the camera is definitely more familiar territory for me than being in front of one.

But my recent Chamber TV interview gave me a chance to talk about Refined Image, how the business has evolved, and the different ways I now help professionals and businesses with their imagery.

Headshots, corporate teams, real estate, and commercial photography may look like very different assignments, but there’s a common thread:

The images need to do something for the client.

I’m grateful to the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce for the opportunity to share more of the story behind Refined Image.

You don’t need to know how to pose for a professional headshot. That’s my job.

Most people arrive at the studio telling me some version of, “I’m not good in front of a camera.”

A good headshot session isn’t about asking someone to stand still and smile. We work through posture, angles and expression until we find something that feels natural and communicates confidence and approachability.

The goal is a headshot that looks polished without looking forced.

Your team changes. Your brand shouldn’t.

Greendale Physical Therapy has an ongoing headshot program with Refined Image, allowing team members to come into the studio as headshots are needed.

Even though these photographs were created at different times, the lighting, background, framing and overall look remain consistent.

The result? As employees join the team or need an updated image, their new headshot fits seamlessly with the rest of the organization.

For companies with growing or changing teams, you don’t necessarily need to coordinate everyone for one big photography day. A repeatable headshot standard can keep your visual brand consistent year after year.

Most people who step in front of my camera tell me some version of the same thing:

“I’m not good at having my picture taken.”

Fortunately, you don’t have to be.

A big part of a headshot session happens before I press the shutter: getting the lighting right, coaching expression and positioning, and helping someone get comfortable enough that they stop thinking about the camera.

That’s when we get the photograph.

Same person. Same studio. Two very different portraits.

That’s one of the reasons I like building some variety into a portrait session rather than simply changing poses.

Wardrobe, lighting and expression can completely change what an image communicates.

This one had a little bit of everything: great curb appeal, beautiful interior space and a a great backyard.

A few favorites from a recent property I photographed.

One of the things I enjoy about photographing homes like this is figuring out how to make the complete set feel like a tour through the property rather than a collection of unrelated rooms.
