Here is my third then-and-now photo of Loring Park area. This side-by-side photo compares the Basilica of Saint Mary in Minneapolis in the late 1950s to the one I took yesterday.

One thing's clear: the Basilica's timeless architecture has stood the test of time, but Hennepin Avenue itself underwent a major transformation with the construction of Interstate 94. It's fascinating to imagine the avenue continuing its straight path directly to the Basilica, surrounded by auto showrooms.

Per Bud Greene the two cars closest to the camera in the old photo are from the late 1950s, suggesting the picture was taken around then or possibly the early 1960s.

An old photo from 1929 hung in the hallway of my office got me thinking, so decided to borrow it and put together a "now & then" image to see how they compare. The old photo captured a mail carrier in shorts, so it must have been taken right before the 1929 market crash in October.

I could spend all day geeking out on stuff like this. Especially with those 30mph winds outside, it's the perfect day to dive into the past.

I wanted to create an artistic image using a photo I took, so I wanted to test Adobe's generative fill feature to add stars and a moon to the evening sky. Well, it didn't work as expected, distorting buildings and adding neon streaks instead. So, I opted for a traditional approach, using night sky images from artists Arnie and Min An on Canva, layered in with Photoshop.

As a photographer, AI is fascinating yet intimidating. While it offers new possibilities, true artistry goes beyond technical prowess. Photography is about storytelling, emotion, and artistry. I mean, would you want AI to generate the most important moments, like your wedding?

Capella Tower was lit orange for Multiple Sclerosis Awareness on this nice evening, with many people still downtown despite the late hour.

Ventured out on a not-so-cold Sunday evening for a bike ride with Minneapolis' impound lot as my original destination - not for car reclaiming, but for a downtown view. Arrived a bit early, so I pedaled on, eventually reaching Boom Island. The evening was serene and picturesque, with folks strolling about. The changing skyline, thanks to the Four Seasons, added a new dimension to the scene compared to years past.

For years, I thought beauty and stories were only found elsewhere, not where you live & work. WRONG. Minneapolis has proven me otherwise.

I didn’t bring my tripod, which I regretted, so I macgyvered a makeshift tripod with a railing on the stone arch. Actually I ended up liking the reflection on it.

After settling into my new office for a few hours today, I decided to take a bike ride down to the river. The weather has been unpredictable lately, but thankfully, this evening was quite pleasant. Seen in the center, Pillsbury “A” Mill was once the largest flour mill in the world.
