Hello, Sequoia Studios!
I felt it was time for a little rebrand. âșïž
The story behind Sequoia Studios:
I went to Sequoia National Park in 2018 with my father. Thereâs knowing how tall trees are and actually seeing how tall they are. Iâve seen the ocean, Iâve seen the mountains, the dessert, wide open fields, forests. But when I saw these trees...it was unlike anything Iâd ever seen.
Actually getting out of the car and seeing them, touching them, it felt like something out of a Tolkien book.
The trip with my dad was something I will cherish for the rest of my life. Two years later, my dad passed away. That trip was three weeks of quality time with my dad doing the things we loved that I wouldnât change for the world. I took a photo of him standing between the trees and it is one of my favorite photos, because it contains two of my favorite things. Getting to have that time with him, make those memories, and have photos to look back onâthatâs everything.
There is something to learn from Sequoias.
Their thick bark make them incredibly fire proof. AND, did you know that fires actually help sequoias grow and thrive? Natural fires clear out all of the brush that takes up room and takes away needed space for the trees to grow. Along with that, the heat from the fire helps the treeâs cones to open and let seeds fallâallowing new growth.
So, fires help the trees grow and thrive.
Plus, these trees arenât fast growing. Though they span 200+ feet tall, they grow roughly two feet a year. But I think it is because they grow so slow that they are able to live for so long. The slow growth allows them to adjust to the elements around them. The more they are exposed to, the longer they can grow and thrive.
These trees arenât weak. They go through so much just to survive, to thrive. I want to be like that. To be able to stand strong through the fires, to let them take away the things that are actually hurting my growth. And even though growing at such a slow pace sounds painful, I would rather grow an inch at a time and be able to learn and adapt for years to come.
This is why I named my business Sequoia Studios.
