http://jonathanconklin.net Jonathan Conklin Photography provides headshots for business, acting and modeling in Minneapolis and St Paul. Before becoming a photographer, I worked in the restaurant business as a chef. I spent two years as a cook and baker, getting up at 4 am to bake bread for 200 sailors. After I left the Navy, I

spent the next ten years of my career working in kitchens, which ended as a chef in NYC. I quit cooking professionally after borrowing a friend’s camera to explore photography. What started out as a hobby, quickly became a passion of mine, and ultimately developed into a new career. I’ve spent the last ten years as a photographer in New York City, photographing for thousands of clients across a wide variety of industries, including acting, modeling, business, fashion, food, fitness, sports and events. In May of 2015, my wife and I decided to relocate to Minneapolis for a better quality of life. We love the friendly vibe of the city and all that it has to offer. I’ve opened a spacious studio with lots of natural light in the heart of downtown. Working in the photography business in New York City for a decade taught me to be very competitive. That means providing my clients with photography that helps their brand or business stand out and get noticed, while offering excellent rates, personalized service and working with integrity. I'm building a Minneapolis and St Paul client base and would love to hear photography projects you may have. email [email protected]

For this shoot with Chris Kristoff the Magician Kristoff the Magician, I wanted something bold and dramatic. A solid backdrop paired with three‑point lighting helped keep the light even while maintaining strong contrast. Second time collaborating with Chris and Colleen—great creative energy all around.

In recent years, I’ve made a conscious effort to slow down in the studio and focus more intentionally on each headshot. For this shoot, rather than relying on my standard Parabolic softbox ( ), I chose to bounce the flash off a white backdrop and diffuse it through a large scrim positioned a few feet from Ashley. This approach produced a soft, even light that I’m very pleased with.
