I’m posting my annual pride post a few days late on purpose and for a few reasons:
1) pride is all month and all year long, not just June 1 which is what it can sometimes feel like round here.
2) I know there’s always an influx of sharing pictures of gay people kissing on June 1…. And don’t get me wrong I do that too- but I wanted to change it up this year.
It makes sense that in wedding spaces people focus in on the romantic love and kissing/ holding hands energy of pride, because we’re typically hired to photograph people in love. But pride is so much deeper than just who you want to kiss (or don’t want to!!!!) and it deserves recognition too. In fact, weddings themselves are also a huge reflection of community that is so necessary when talking about pride. So here’s me, a friendly reminder that Pride is important for so many reasons- and yes we still need to be loud about kissing whomever you want!!!!! But we also need to be loud about loving yourself and loving your people just as much if not more. Happy Pride yall go hug your friends 🌈

It’s not every day you get to run around an arcade when no one’s around and capture people actually having the time of their life together. this session awoke something in me (but I fear it’s not an awakening of being good at arcade games.. I will always be bad at those 😜)

I think S & C successfully convinced me that I’m 110% pro winter weddings. With a blizzard coming just two days before, the snow was fresh and magical and despite it being cold, we got to huddle up in a little igloo and take the most magical photos ever. Thanks for braving the cold with me you two 🫶🌈

A + S have the perfect balance of wanting to have fun but also slowing down to dance with their person on their wedding day. I lost track of how many times all of us stayed laughing and then eventually started crying because their love is just so palpable and they take time to share that with each other. The one where we got to take the coolest portraits allllllll day. I’m always so excited when a couple expresses interest in taking really cool portraits and wanting to share creativity together. A small but mighty rage portrait round 2. I’m so incredibly inspired by all those who came and share their feelings with me for this event. Each and every one of them has witness, encountered and seen things that are never forgotten like so many of us have. But each of them have also continued to show up for neighbors and so while we sat together in rage, I also left the night feeling renewed and re-energized. Metro Surge is not over it’s just changing and our neighbors still need us and we still need each other. I hope these portraits will be able to remind you of that and give you some energy to keep showing up (and taking care of yourself!)
