Minnesota has honored Prince with murals, street names, celebrations, and countless purple tributes. But perhaps it is time for something permanent in the heart of Minneapolis.

Imagine a bronze statue outside First Avenue capturing Prince exactly as so many remember him: fearless, stylish, playful, completely original, and wearing roller skates because even his most casual moments became iconic.

Prince was not simply a famous musician who happened to come from Minnesota. He was one of the most innovative artists in modern history, and he carried Minneapolis with him onto the world stage. He created the Minneapolis Sound, inspired generations of musicians, supported local artists, and proved that a kid from Minnesota could reshape global culture without abandoning his roots.

A statue like this would be more than a tourist attraction. It would be a celebration of creativity, individuality, hometown pride, and a legend who never stopped representing the place that made him.

First Avenue feels like the perfect home for it.

Sad news for Minnesota. After more than a century of making candy here, Pearson’s will close its iconic St. Paul factory in September, affecting 80 employees.

Since 1909, Pearson’s has been part of our state’s story. For generations, Minnesotans have grown up enjoying Nut Goodies, Salted Nut Rolls and other treats made right here in St. Paul.

Thankfully, this may not be the end of the brands we love. The company says it is actively looking for a strategic partner to continue making key Pearson’s products, with the Salted Nut Roll described as its highest priority.

Our thoughts are with the candy makers, technicians and other employees whose work helped create so many sweet Minnesota memories.
