Reflecting on a week + a half in Bridgehampton ⭐️
Walking into this week I knew I didn’t want to spend nine days chasing shots that I felt like no one cared about. There’s a lot of that in athletics… “just get the shot!”
And I get it because there IS a time and a place. You don’t wanna be the photographer that misses the poster-worthy dunk or the one that was looking for something edgy when you just really needed to get the champ with her trophy.
This week I wanted to get those shots and thennnn some. I wanted to practice being curious enough to find the little girls seeing horses up close for the first time, already making a script in their head to ask dad for lessons.
The people who came for the big hats, a drink, some live sport and a good day out. The horse people who have spent 30, 40, 50 years of their lives in this sport. The locals who came by because it was the weekend and there was something going on.
I wanted to “get the shot” + then I wanted to linger long.
The equestrian sport is a lot of things: beautiful and exciting, but also relentless, nerve-racking and sometimes completely overwhelming. Everything comes down to the minute, the second, the footing, the footwork and a thousand tiny decisions that most people never see. I guess that’s why they call it a horse ‘show’, huh ? 🤸🏼♀️
For the last week and a half all I really wanted to do was chase the forgettable moments at a show of this magnitude + make people remember what all goes into it.
Thank you to the Classic for a week worth remembering !
