Biking around during yesterday's warm-up has me craving more! Only one more month or so until we get to see the streets with splotches of color. The Magnolia's with their velvety petals, fuzzy buds, and pink watercolor undersides are among my favorite signs of spring. What are yours?!

I am just so thrilled to do this work and bring all the aspects of my training as a social worker (years of therapeutic development) and my love of human connection to the work that I do. I really enjoy helping people feel seen, safe, and grounded in their bodies during sessions while keeping things light, fun and joyful.

I've been holding onto this image because I'm so proud of it I almost didn't know how to share it.

Creating Adoptee Identity Portraits (TM) is a rare intersection of story, artistry, and care. It's not just taking a photo - it's witnessing someone's whole self with intention.

This adoptee and I connected immediately. We talked through her story, shaped the details together, and on session day leaned fully into trust and creativity. What we made is something she'll carry with her - and honestly, so will I.

Identity portraits on film hold a different kind of power.

When I shoot film with adoptees, it feels like time slows down. There's no rushing, no forcing, no perfecting - just presence. Just truth. Just the quiet process of being seen.

Film demands intention. And so does identity.
Every frame becomes a small act of reclamation: a way of saying this is me, in my own story, on my own terms.

No filters and no needing to perform.

Working with adoptees in this medium has been one of the most meaningful parts of my work. There's something sacred about aligning artistry, heritage, and lived experience into a single image that feels like memory, lineage, and becoming all at once.

I’ve been a film photographer since I can remember. As a kid I always had a disposable camera with me or my dad’s Nikon FG (which these are taken on). I convinced my folks to let me have a darkroom in our (only) bathroom and nerded out on developing black and white prints of my rabbit stud muffin (yes I named him stud muffin 😆 he was beautiful). But I digress. Finding my way back to film makes me so happy I could almost cry. The richness of the colors, the unpredictable nature and the slow meditative process it requires all come into alignment for me. Everything about these make me feel something deeply. I’m immediately transported to the warm September breeze and the smell of the season transitioning from summer to fall. The flowers still blooming. The leaves starting to turn. And another season changing over.

I'm so excited to photograph the beautiful people signing up for my fall mini sessions in just a few weeks! If you're on the fence here's what I'll say - photos may not seem important until you regret not having them. Like anything time moves forward, our memories fade, and the world changes around us. High quality, expressive images that capture you and/or your family in a season of your life are irreplaceable little treasures that you can return to time and time again.
