If I had to choose one place to photograph forever. The choice would be simple. The New Mexico badlands. I’ve spent more time there than any other place over my career and I never get tired of returning. The things I’ve seen and experienced out here are unparalleled. I always thoroughly enjoy showing folks around that have never seen anything like it, the plethora of dinosaur bones scattered and eroding from the landscape always leaves you with a sense of wonder. Something has me reminiscing about the time I drove to the arctic circle all the way from Pheonix. My father had just passed away a few months earlier and I felt so lost. All I knew was that I had to get to the Yukon. While there I was lucky to spend a week deep in Tombstone territorial park with a few far more talented photographers than I. I wish I wasn’t in the depths of grief then so I could’ve absorbed more of their powers but never the less it was a blast. I arranged a pizza delivery by helicopter half way through, ate my weight in wild blueberries, caught wild Grayling on the fly and saw the northern lights enough to last my lifetime.

In the last couple of weeks good friend Blake Rudis of F64Academy.com and I have held back to back group workshops. Starting here in Moab before heading up to Ouray, Colorado for another. It felt like a blur as we chased monsoons, fog and lightning. Dodged hail and huge rainstorms in the process. But you can’t make epic images without epic weather. I’m back home now and gearing up for Oregon later this month for more Autumn goodness! A massive thank you to the folks that joined us from around the country!
