Melissa and I discovered this uniquely shaped juniper wood while exploring off-trail not far from the Windows Area, seen in the distance.

How many arches can you count in this photo?

10/24/2026

Headed into Arches with Melissa to do a little fall color scouting. There is a spot I visited one time, in the spring, close to 20 years ago. It looks down into a side canyon filled with cottonwood trees in a vast area of rolling sandstone. I only remember roughly where it is and it's not on a trail so...wish me luck in my quest to find it.

One of my favorite things to do is find unique compositions at iconic locations. This barn has been shot thousands of times but I've never seen an image from this perspective, with autumn aspen leaves framing the beautiful barn in early morning light. It may not be as dramatic as the standard view, with the Tetons towering behind the barn, but I think it stands on its own. What do you think?

I got a kick out of watching these ravens at Dornan's in the Tetons. These birds have such funny personalities! I call the second image "The Argument" because each bird is looking away from the other, as if they just argued about something and neither one is willing to concede.

Have a great day, everyone. The week is almost half over!

Following up on the image I posted a few days ago titled "Six Cows and a Storm", I give you "Six Cows, a Snow Fence and a Storm". I shot this one a few moments after the last one. It didn't take long for that storm to reach us. It started with rain, quickly proceeded to pelting us with hail and then began dropping thick bolts of lightning danger close. I ran back to the truck and took a few pieces of hail to the face, which I don't recommend.

Hope your week is off to a great start!

This is the view from another rest area along I-70 in the San Rafael Swell. It's truly mind-blowing how beautiful these rest areas are. National park worthy!

Unfortunately, there was a significant amount of graffiti at this one, including in the sandstone just to the right of this tree. I used the removal tool in Lightroom to get rid of it but I hate that I had to do that. I really wish people were more respectful of these lovely spots.

Since we're on the topic of I-70 rest areas, here's another one. This is at the Sand Bench Rest Area, eastbound. Certainly not as dramatic as the previous image I posted but it's still a stunner, especially on a day like this.

Hope y'all are having a great weekend!

I've visited national parks that weren't as scenic as this rest stop on Utah's I-70. Seriously.

Anyone recognize this spot?

***PLEASE CLICK TO VIEW LARGER ON BLACK***

I call this one "Six Cows and a Storm". Honestly, naming my images is probably my least favorite part about being a photographer. I'm just not good at it.

Jackson and I found this scene somewhere outside Kemmerer, Wyoming on our way home from the Tetons. We got really lucky with the conditions and somewhat cooperative cows.

So, here's a challenge: What would you name this image?

We're back from an incredible trip to the Tetons. Jackson and I visited several locations I've never been to before including this, the Luther Taylor Cabins, in the Gros Ventre Mountains. As is customary for me, I looked for a way to frame the Grand Teton and when I found this interesting view inside the dilapidated cabin, I was ecstatic. I'd love to hear what you think of this one!
