The age of question… Color or black-and-white? When it comes to a black-and-white photography, I feel like commercially you really don’t see it as much… It’s a very bold stylish choice that doesn’t really seem to show up and much other categories than portrait and weddings. There’s just something about it though that brings a different emotion to an image… What do you think?

I rarely have time at a wedding to be able to play with light tricks, but this amazing couple let me spend time for this long exposure experiment. It’s super challenging because the people have to hold as still as they can for a number of seconds, and then of course you need to move fast enough to move a light source around them and not get caught by the light yourself. In a world of AI tricks and Photoshop, this one is fun knowing it’s all in camera.

Hope you guys enjoy this little list of tips and tricks! After shooting weddings over 10 years and at this point probably hundreds of different locations, you learn a thing or two. I love to share as much information as I can with people to help them not only have less anxiety for making decisions on their big day, but also putting the fun back into it. This couldn’t be more important! Well, I know the first thing you’re going to say is budget, budget, budget… even then a location needs to be your vibe. It’s not only the place you’re going to spend your entire special day at, but it’s also going to reflect in your photography and in the mood of your guests. Make sure to give your location an extra bit of time before you make the decision and you’ll thank yourself!

There’s just something about black-and-white photography in weddings. Obviously nowadays, black and white is simply a style choice… Only for the aesthetics, not like it used to be where that’s all we had as an option. What about it makes it so timeless, though? In a day with so much color and beauty… Some of my favorite shots look fantastic with that silver look.
