Gobi Desert, Mongolia // Despite its reputation as a barren wasteland, the Gobi is one of the world’s most unique deserts; home to grasslands, mountains, wildlife, and vast open plains. Stretching across southern Mongolia and northern China, it is the largest desert in Asia and one of the few places where wild horses still roam.

Canadian Geese, Yellowstone National Park • Each spring and fall, Canadian geese travel hundreds; sometimes thousands of miles along ancient migratory routes, navigating by the sun, stars, landmarks, and even Earth’s magnetic field. Flying in their iconic V formation, they conserve energy by riding the air currents created by the bird ahead.

Thank you to my entire community for embracing my book NORTH. What began as a way to understand the North Shore from the inside became the defining project of my career and a reflection of everything I value in storytelling.

Recently, NORTH sold out in Europe, on Amazon, and through my website. Given the book’s success, and because my publisher is, well, AWESOME, we have decided to bind one final round of copies. They are available now.

Pick up your signed book at the link in my bio, or if you are in Europe, purchase through . A portion of all remaining copies sold through my website will continue to support the North Shore, including and those affected by the recent flooding on the North Shore.

Grab one before they are gone, and thank you again for the incredible support I have received since the book’s release.

, thank you for the freedom you bestowed upon me during this project. It has been, and continues to be, a remarkable partnership.

Ty Cavan told me he had been farming this land for 30 years, since 1975, and had never experienced anything like it. Instantly, I could tell he was strong, and his story confirmed it.

Ty shared his account of the March 20 flooding:

It was my birthday. When the floodwaters came, I had two choices: climb to the roof or swim 200 yards to the road. I swam. I jumped off of my deck into the floodwaters. It was pitch black, with torrential rain. I moved from one banana tree to the next, clinging to each and gathering enough strength to reach the next one. Logs and branches flowed past in the current. No one could see or hear me, but in the distance I could see the lights of a truck where people were helping others. I had to make it there.

I clawed my way up the embankment, reached the road, and made it to the truck.

I will always remember the day I turned 64.

Please consider contributing to Ty. He lost his crops, car, phone, and most of his possessions in the flooding. Let’s help him start again. You can find his GoFundMe link at the end of my photos.

These stories are shared by people who have opened up their lives in a time of need. The intention is connection - to foster understanding and encourage support, with the awareness that any one of us could one day find ourselves in need.

The Hawaii flooding has come and gone, but the struggles continue. Meet farmer Chaiyakon Prachot. He lost everything and needs our help. Please consider donating through the GoFundMe link at the end of the slideshow.

As you look through the photos, you will notice the mud and water lines are above Chaiyakon’s head. When the river engulfed his farm, he had nowhere to go but up, so he rode out the flood on the corrugated roof. In complete darkness, he had no idea if the building would hold or if the river would rise to meet him. All night, the torrential rain pounded the metal roof around him with a deafening force. The following day, as daylight broke, the waters slowly began to recede. Eventually Chaiyakon trudged through endless mud to unite with his brother.

The day I photographed Chaiyakon was the first day he returned to his farm, and it was also the day the National Guard arrived. Though their deployment came days late, when they landed they brought much-needed manpower to the cleanup and offered the farmers a lifeline. These men and women cleared Chaiyakon’s farm of mud and debris, helping him back on solid ground.

These stories are shared by people who have opened their homes during a time of need. The intention is connection - to foster understanding and encourage support, with the awareness that any one of us could one day find ourselves in need.
