The backpacks are packed, the first-day photos have been taken, and little by little, everyone is settling into their new routines. šŸ¤

Thereā€™s something about the start of a new school year that makes you realize just how quickly theyā€™re growing. The missing teeth, the new independence, the way they suddenly seem a little older than they did just a few weeks ago.
And while we canā€™t slow it all down, we can hold on to a little piece of who they are right now.

I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you. šŸ¤

Iā€™m officially completely booked for outdoor sessions for the rest of the year, and I truly never take that for granted.

So many of you come back year after year & trust me to document your families as you grow and change. Getting to watch your families grow through my camera is one of the greatest gifts of this job.

Thank you for choosing me, supporting me, sharing my name with your friends and family, and allowing me to be a small part of your familyā€™s story. It means more to me than you know.

If you were hoping for an outdoor family session but missed out this year, Iā€™ll be running my Black Friday sale again in November. That will be your chance to grab an outdoor session for next year!

Your toddler does not need to ā€œcooperateā€ for your newborn session!

Iā€™m not expecting them to sit perfectly, smile on command, or lovingly stare at their new sibling for five minutes straight.

Sometimes I need them in one spot for approximately three seconds, and then we move on šŸ˜…

We play, we take breaks, we follow their lead, and somewhere in the middle of all of that, we get moments like these.

So if the thought of bringing your toddler to your newborn session stresses you outā€¦ please donā€™t let it.

One less thing for you to worry about when you book a family session: what to wear.

For this session, the girlsā€™ dresses, their hat, and even Dadā€™s shirt all came from the client closet.
I love being able to help pull everything together so your family looks coordinated without looking overly matched.. and you can spend less time stressing about what everyone is going to wear.

One of the best parts of newborn sessions?
You really donā€™t have to come in knowing what to do.
Especially with your first baby, thereā€™s already so much to think about. What to wear, how to hold baby, how to pose... thatā€™s where I come in.
I will guide you through it, and with a client closet for both moms AND dads, Iā€™ve got the wardrobe part covered too.
You just show up with your baby. Iā€™ll take it from there.

One of my favorite things about this session was photographing this family in a room where images from one of our sessions years ago are still hanging on their walls.
Their family has changed so much since those photos were taken, but those memories still get to be part of their everyday life.
That's why I'll always love seeing your photos become more than something that lives on your phone. Years pass. Babies grow. Families change.
But the photos on your walls get to grow right along with you. šŸ¤

Personality portraits are exactly what they sound like.. a chance to capture your kid exactly as they are right now.
Bring the lollipop. The favorite hat. The toy they carry everywhere. Apparently even the screw gun. šŸ˜…
The things theyā€™re obsessed with right now might feel ordinary, but someday theyā€™ll be the details you miss the most.

One thing that makes my newborn sessions a little different is my background before photography.
Before becoming a full-time photographer, I spent more than 15 years caring for children, including 9 years as a pediatric nurse practitioner.
That experience taught me how to read babies.
Sometimes a baby is hungry.
Sometimes itā€™s gas.
Sometimes itā€™s reflux.
Sometimes they donā€™t like lying completely flat.
Sometimes they simply need a different position or a few extra minutes
Every baby communicates differently, and over the years Iā€™ve learned to recognize those little cues.

Of course, babies still surprise me sometimes.. theyā€™re tiny humans with big personalities! But Iā€™ve learned to stay patient, work through each possibility, and let baby lead the session.
Thatā€™s one of the reasons Iā€™ve never had to reschedule a newborn session because a baby ā€œwouldnā€™t cooperate.ā€
I simply meet them where they are šŸ¤
