Visited and photographed Santa Cruz Cider Company in Watsonville for - I can attest to their selection being one my new favorites, and I've tried my fair share of ciders hunting down a solid dry cider. Bonus points for being able to enjoy something I genuinely enjoy while supporting a women-owned (and sister-owned!) brewery. Find their ciders at their tasting room in Watsonville on Hangar Way, on their website, or in local restaurants, bars, and shops! 🙌

Last week my favorite artsy town of Seyðisfjörður in Iceland, with a population of just around 670, suffered landslides that destroyed at least ten homes. I only visited briefly, but it was one of the handful of places I've been that had a permeating sensation of feeling strangely familiar, like home, perhaps in another life... so much I applied to live there for 4 months on a residency. I hope this magical place recovers, and maybe one day I'll be able to visit again. 🇮🇸

I know I posted this photo already but a) who doesn’t want to see a llama eating a rose, you’re welcome, and b) this llama, or maybe it was another llama ( can confirm) is named Barack Ollama, which I totally forgot since I shot these while back. If that brilliance doesn’t make your heart sing then I can’t help you.

Some shots from earlier this year for Santa Cruz Waves on how Blume Distillery and Whiskey Hill Farms took a distillation effort to repurpose everything from spent beer to old Halloween candy into renewable fuels for transportation (among other things). ⠀
Since the beginning of the pandemic, they've quickly adapted to convert molasses into hand sanitizer... and it smells very good. ⠀
1. Blume Distillation uses organic sugarcane, spent beer, and other organic materials to create their distilled alcohol products. Formulation Technician Lucky Morales adjusts the molasses distillation tanks.⠀
2. Nate Ervin, Plant Technician at Monterey Bay Renewable Fuels, creates all custom equipment for the distillation process.⠀
3. Leticia Micelli, Fulfillement Operator at Monterey Bay Renewable Fuels, oversees packing of products. Here she shows the final product in use.

Maybe it’s our opposable thumbs that allow us to bound ahead in evolution so much that we’ve afforded ourselves the comfort of living above all other life, but it’s those same hands of ours that bring us to this moment, in which we too are serving the same purpose of all other life, which is to simply survive. Shot this morning along the farms where your strawberries come from.

Early last week: HWY 9 in Ben Lomond and the volunteer fire dept. Never seen so many cars while passing by. 🙏🏽 Hopefully one day we’ll get to go back to Coffee 9: mediocre coffee, great atmosphere. Always had a mixture of mountain folk and remote tech workers which might seem out of place in any other little mountain town. Big tables, so you always make a friend. Became my local spot when feeling cooped up, or when the power went out, which was a lot... and sometimes the power went out there too, but it was worth staying until your batteries died. One of the many annoyingly endearing quirks of the mountains. @ Ben Lomond, California
