It has been so dry here that looking for amphibians would have been a fools errand. Thankfully we finally got some rain recently so I ran out to find my favorite salamander species, the green salamander.

Piliated woodpeckers, like this one from 2021, are such striking birds that when I needed to make up a logo, I thought, "what bird will people immediately recognize ?" and as soon as you see those black and white marking with the bright red crest, you instantly know you are looking at a woodpecker.

This photo of a red phase screech owl, from last year, was the end of a 20+ year search for this little owl species. I can't even imagine how many tree cavities I scanned looking for one of these. Thousands to be sure.
