Moonbow over Haleakala National Park

I had a telescope setup for visitors to glimpse the full moon during a night sky program Saturday evening outside park headquarters when this moonbow appeared. This was my first encounter. They’re fairly rare, appearing far less frequently than rainbows. What a treat!

Lovely Night Sky

Venus and the Moon above the Tetons. My friend and fellow photographer, Butch Connor, and I were returning after chasing wildlife most of the day when we noticed this scene and pulled over to quickly grab a few shots before we lost the moon below the mountains. Perhaps if we had planned for this we might have managed to find a different location that would have allowed us to get Grand Teton in the image, but you take what you get when an unexpected opportunity arises.
