“Why does photography cost so much?”
“It’s only 30 minutes, right?”
“I can get pictures taken for less somewhere else.”
I get it.
You think I’ll show up, take photos for 30 minutes to an hour, and leave. If that’s all a photographer is offering you, I wouldn’t pay either!
But it’s never that simple. What you don't see is everything that happens before and after your session. When you book with me, you're not just paying for me to show up with a camera. You're investing in someone to take the stress off your plate. I help with locations, wardrobe guidance, planning, posing, lighting, and timing. You don't have to know how to pose or what to do with your hands. You don't have to worry about getting the “perfect” smile. You just have to show up.
But after we leave, the work continues. I sort through each of your images, select only the best moments, and individually edit them. You're paying for my experience, expertise, preparation, creativity, editing, and the love I have for my job.
More importantly, you're investing in photographs of your people exactly as they are right now.
Because your family isn't going to be this exact age forever.
Your kids won't always have those missing teeth.
They won't always reach for your hand.
They won't always fit on your lap.
Your grandparents won't always be here.
Your family will change.
An one day, these photographs may mean more to you than you could have ever imagined.
So, yes. There will always be someone who charges less, and that's okay. I'm not trying to be the cheapest photographer. I'm trying to be the photographer who makes you feel taken care of and gives you photographs you'll be grateful you have.
That's what you're investing in.
Not just pictures. Memories of the love you have for your family.
