Okay September… I see you 👀🍂

This is officially the time of year where everybody starts thinking, “Crap, we need family pictures before Christmas cards.”

Consider this your gentle reminder before October gets absolutely feral. 😂

Fall family sessions are one of my favorite things to shoot because the kids are usually running, somebody is laughing, somebody is absolutely NOT cooperating, and somehow those end up being the photos everyone loves most anyway.

Which photo would you rather have framed in your house?

A perfectly posed family portrait where everyone is looking at the camera

OR

A candid one where everyone is laughing and nobody is looking at me?

I already know which one usually ends up being my favorite. 👀

Wedding photographers have a very weird skill set.

We can photograph a ring.

Pin a boutonniere.

Bustle a dress.

Wrangle 28 relatives into one picture.

Find the missing groomsman.

Work around Uncle Bob standing in the aisle with his iPad.

And somehow still notice Grandma crying in the third row.

😂

Wedding days are chaos.

Beautiful, emotional, hilarious chaos.

And I freaking love them.

Bauer Family Sneak Peek

Shelby asked if I’d be willing to come down to their family farm and just hang out with them for a while… and YES. This is exactly my kind of session.

Their property is absolutely gorgeous, but these girls completely stole the show. They are SO full of life, personality and laughs. They kept me on my toes and had me giggling right along with them the entire evening.

We played Ring Around the Rosie, made silly faces, told jokes to get Mom and Dad laughing, ran around the yard and even picked apples. Basically, we let the kids be kids and captured their family exactly as they are right now.

Give me the pretty sunset, the family farm, the belly laughs, the wild kiddos and all the little in-between moments every single time.

I absolutely love sessions like this. 🤎

Back to school season is such a weird mix of:

“THANK GOD we have a routine again.” 😂

and

“When did you get this big and who gave you permission?”

Take the picture.

Even if they roll their eyes.

Even if the sign is crooked.

Even if somebody is crying.

Because one day those rushed little first day photos are going to hit you right in the feelings.

Brody | Senior Sneak Peek 🤍

The youngest of my cousins… and somehow we’re already taking his senior pictures. 🥹 Today was an entire day of photographing family, and I’m not gonna lie, it was a little bittersweet. I’m so proud of the guy Brody has grown into.

We basically made a tour of the county for this one. We started at the Trussell Bridge, wandered down some gravel roads, stopped at the train depot in town, headed out toward the lake, and finished the evening exactly where we needed to… on the football field.

And I am VERY thankful nobody was around recording Bri and me trying to boost this grown boy up onto the field goal. 😂 It was a whole operation, but the picture was absolutely worth it.

We made sure to work in two pretty big pieces of Brody’s senior year — FFA and football — while still getting plenty of the laid-back, senior photos that just fit him.

Still not entirely sure who gave all of my little cousins permission to grow up, but here we are. 🥹🤍

Jayden + Clayton Robinson | Senior Sneak Peek 💙💛

This one was somehow both hard and a piece of cake for me. I have literally known these two since before they were born, one of the perks of being the oldest cousin, so wrapping my brain around the fact that I was taking their senior pictures was a little rude, honestly. 😂

They each came with a couple ideas they wanted to make sure we included. We had to get the Moravia sign, some photos with their dad’s corn, and then their dad suggested the old Billy Goat Bridge, which ended up being such a cool spot. From there, we just drove around the Moravia area and stopped at some pretty gravel roads along the way.

Of course the FFA jackets had to make an appearance too. 💙💛 Jayden and Clayton are the President and Vice President of Moravia FFA, and if you know them, you know they are some of the hardest-working boys around. They’re both just genuinely good kids, and I’m pretty dang proud of the young men they’ve grown into.

Getting to photograph this season for them was a pretty special one for me. 🤍

40 years. 🥹🤍

Chelsy reached out to me wanting to surprise her parents, Joe + Lynn, with an extended family session for their 40th wedding anniversary and somehow the location ended up making the whole thing even sweeter.

While we were talking about where to shoot, I mentioned that I love photographing around Rathbun Lake and suggested South Fork. She immediately told me they had camped there every summer when she and her sister were kids. 🥹 At that point, it pretty much felt like fate. There really couldn’t have been a more perfect place to celebrate 40 years of marriage and the family they’ve built along the way.

And because Iowa apparently understood the assignment, we ended the evening with one heck of a sunset over the water. 😍

I absolutely loved spending the evening with the Nekvinda family. If you know them, you already know what a genuine joy this entire crew is to be around.

Happy 40th anniversary, Joe + Lynn. Here’s to a whole lot more years, more memories, and hopefully plenty more summers at the lake. 🤍✨

Tonia + Bryan 🤍

There’s something extra special about getting to witness two people stand together again and choose each other all over.

Tonia and Bryan celebrated their vow renewal at the beautiful Centerville Faith Church, where they wrote their own vows and surrounded themselves with the people who mean the most to them. Their daughter was such a sweet part of the entire day, and I loved how intentionally they made their family part of not only the ceremony, but the whole celebration.

It wasn’t about starting a new chapter, it was about celebrating everything they’ve already built together and promising to keep choosing each other through all the chapters still to come. 🥹🤍

Here’s to Tonia + Bryan and many, many more years of love, laughter, family, and happiness together. 🥂✨

📸 PSA: HOW YOUR PHOTO GALLERY IS DELIVERED + HOW TO DOWNLOAD IT

Okay friends, quick little housekeeping post because this has come up a few times lately!

When your finished gallery is ready, your album is delivered through Pixieset, so the email does NOT come directly from my normal photography email.

📩 Your gallery email will come from:
[email protected]

And apparently Gmail has decided that your brand new family photos, wedding photos, newborn photos, etc. belong in the Promotions folder, more often than not. 🙃

So if I tell you your gallery will be done in 10 days and it’s day 14, check here:

Check Promotions → check Spam/Junk → then search “Pixieset” or [email protected].

I promise I didn’t forget about you.

HOW TO DOWNLOAD YOUR FULL GALLERY FROM YOUR PHONE

🍎 iPhone

1. Open your Pixieset gallery.
2. Tap the three dots ⋮ in the upper-right corner.
3. Tap Download.
4. Enter your email and download PIN if prompted.
5. Choose the sets/photos you want, your download size, and your device.
6. Tap Start Download.
7. Your gallery will download as a ZIP file. Open the Files app → Downloads and tap the ZIP file to unzip it.
8. Open that new folder, select your images, tap Share → Save Images to put them into your Photos app.

🤖 Android

1. Open your Pixieset gallery.
2. Tap the three dots ⋮ → Download.
3. Enter your email and PIN if prompted.
4. Choose your photos/download size and tap Start Download.
5. Open Files/My Files → Downloads.
6. Tap the ZIP file and choose Extract.
7. Your images will be inside the extracted folder. Depending on your phone, they may show in your Gallery automatically; if not, move/save them into your Pictures folder.

Pixieset uses ZIP files for full-gallery mobile downloads because it makes downloading a large number of full-resolution images faster and more reliable.

One more thing: pleaseeee download the actual images instead of screenshotting them. 😂 Your gallery contains the beautiful, high-resolution files you paid me for, and screenshots absolutely murder the quality, especially if you ever want to print them.

And if for some reason technology decides to fight you, just message me. I would much rather help you get your photos downloaded correctly than have them living forever in Pixieset because your phone decided to be rude. 🤍
