On December 7th and 22nd my friends and I chased and rode the Three Rivers Rambler Christmas Lantern Express! With its famous rare steam power, Southern 154, soon to be retired after over a decade of operation railfans flocked to Knoxville to see it carry passengers to the three rivers bridge near Marbledale. The 1890's locomotive suffered many mechanical issues, leading it to being largely pushed most of the time. Nonetheless it was an incredible experience to see the outpouring of love and spirit from the local community for the train and the dedication of the crews to keep it operational. 154 made history with its long operational career, and hopefully the rebuild will be but a well deserved rest for the old locomotive.

On December 1st, we chased the Three Rivers Rambler with its diesel-only consist being closely followed by a regular freight. Though many railfans consider the diesel trips to be boring or unworthy of going out to photograph, for the passengers there was no less Christmas spirit to be found. My favorite of which was a child in the open air car whose favorite thing to do was to replicate the ending line of the "Polar Express" movie by cupping his hands and yelling "MERRY CHRISTMAS" to anyone along the tracks. More photos soon to come from the other weekends where Southern 154 took its last trips on the Rambler!

In late November for the first time since 2017 I chased the CSX Santa Train throughout its whole route. I met many friends along the way and was delighted to see the children of rural Appalachia feel the Christmas spirit once more. It was so much fun chasing the route of of the Clinchfield again, and I hope to return to this tradition in the coming years. Sadly however some photos were lost due to SD card corruption however in a Christmas miracle most were saved to be shared with all of you! Merry Christmas and stay tuned for the last chase of the year!

Only two days after chasing GSMR, it was off to Chattanooga to chase the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museums Summerville Steam Special Doubleheader! Railfans, Foamers, and locals alike were treated to a special treat as the two Southern Locomotives headed down the Chattooga and Chickamauga. The chase was cut short due to bad lighting and time constraints, but was fun nonetheless. More steam-related happening in Southern Appalachia are coming soon!

For the first chase of November, on a rainy Friday morning we see Great Smoky Mountains Railroads 1702 heads from Dillsboro back to Bryson City. Thru the rainy chase we see the classic scenes of the railroad, including the "Mr. Beast" train wreck and seeing their former Erie Mining Company F7 trailing.

In another first-timer i had to honor of visiting to Crossroads Village & Huckleberry Railroad to see their "Alaska" 152 pull their Halloween train along their former PM mainline with two reversing loops on each end. Sadly we had little time to explore the village proper, another reason to return at a later time for a visit!
