Abbott’s Core, built in 1913 this 100 year old church in CO eastern plains has stood the test of time. Had the place to shoot that night with one other photographer who lit the other side windows with red light that gave a nice red glow on the window. Galaxy core came out around 1 AM and gave a nice show during moonless night.

Temple of the Sun and billion Suns!

Southwest has some of the most unique landscapes in the US and the red rocks and red sands with no civilization around makes you wonder that you landed on Mars. Have been wanting to get to this location quite a few times finally made it and I was rushing to capture the night sky before Moonrise. This is part of Capitol Reef National Park and the monoliths aptly named as the Temple of the sun and moon on the left. Best part of the place is it is one of least visited national park in US and the whole place for myself and one other photographer on this night.

Dragons Lair!

After years of planning to get up to this pond in RMNP, it finally happened this morning. Hike to Skypond in RMNP is one of the hardest I have done as it gets bit challenging towards the end with scrambling on rocks over running Timberline waterfalls. Our hike in total darkness around this waterfall made it even harder. After hiking in total darkness we got passed by few climbers at the falls and they made the climb look so easy, for some reason I was looking at their feet to see if they have mountain goat feet to grip on to slopy wet rocks :D. Luckily conditions were perfect today with no wind on top and got a perfect reflection of Skypond.

Overall the hike is worth a try when conditions are perfect and the sheer magnitude of The Sharkstooth will leave you speechless.

Flatirons under galaxy!

Chautauqua Park falls under class 6 on dark sky map meaning it is suburban light polluted sky. Having seen few Milky way images from this location I had to try and see how light pollution affects. Surprisingly this location is bit darker than I expected and I could see faint milky way few hundred feet from the start of the trail. As you can see the details of the galaxy is not as good as dark sky areas but still worth a drive to here if you have not seen Milky way closer to city skies before.

The Arrival!

Got a chance to shoot the comet NEOWISE near my home, my initial expectation was that I need to go to a dark sky area but surprisingly you can see it on northeastern sky from a light polluted city around 4 AM. As the day goes by the time you can see this comet would be after sunset. This barn is surrounded by builings and street light so I had to blur in photoshop to reduce the clutter in the background. Need to drive to a darker sky area to get more details of this comet.
