I know what Labor Day is actually about… But around here, we celebrate LABOR. 😂

As in childbirth! As in growing a whole human and then being expected to just… recover and parent it.

So today, a shoutout to all the mamas who have been through labor, delivery, recovery, and everything in between.

Happy Labor Day, mamas. You did the hard work. 💛

I realized recently that I have a process I use for pretty much every family session, yes even my own children, that I've photographed for the last 12 years! I just never gave it a name.

So... meet Family Flow: The Pose & Play Method!!!

It’s pretty simple:

Pose. We get the classic family portrait. The one for the Christmas card or for Grandma.

Prompt. I give you something to do so we're not all standing around awkwardly trying to "look natural." I have tonnnns of weird ideas that make up the perfect moment.

Play. We play games, get the wiggles out and sometimes use a tiny marshmallow as payment for good listening. Trust me on the mini marshmallows - they disolve clear!

The goal isn't to make your kids behave perfectly for family photos. After 12 years of working with kids, I've learned a few things.

I'm going to be sharing more about Family Flow because apparently I've been doing this long enough to have accidentally developed a system.

CALLING MY THRIFTING FRIENDS! Christmas mini planning is officially underway.

I’ve got a pretty solid vision for this year and I’m really excited about it. I’m sticking with hunter green, cream and classic red, but I want the sets to have a little range. One area will be more classic and traditional, and then you’ll move over a bit and it gets more playful, colorful and handmade!! So when you come in for your mini, you’ll actually get to choose which part of the Christmas chaos feels most like you.

I’m currently thrifting and collecting things for the sets, so I’m putting this out there in case you have something sitting in your garage/basement that you’re tired of looking at.

I’m looking for:

• A classic red wagon. PLEASE not too rusty. I already own the rusty one.
• A classic red metal tricycle
• Christmas trees of pretty much any size. Lights do not need to work.
• Vintage or just really cute Christmas decor that has some personality

And I’m absolutely willing to trade photography for some things, so if you have something you think might work, send me a picture before you haul it to Goodwill!!!!

I’ll share more as things start coming together because right now it’s mostly me staring at Pinterest and making questionable purchases. 😂
