Important Information for the upcoming Run Your Tail Off Agility CPE Trial September 11-13

• If you are running on Friday ONLY, and you want photos, please let me know! I will be there Friday but I am not photographing - I am working remotely while trying to catch up on Q’s - but I will make sure I get your runs if that’s the only day you can attend.

‼️“DON’T MISS THIS ONE!”
If you have an important run happening this weekend (retirement, first time, championship, etc) please give me plenty of advance notice on which run it is so I can prioritize it! Knowing my luck, I’ll need to change a battery or take a bathroom break or something during that run if I’m not given a heads up, because my luck works that way 🤣

🏵️RIBBON PICS
• If you want a professional ribbon photo you will need to come and grab me! We can make time during course builds to take a photo, you just need to let me know.

🎥VIDEO
• A few people have poked me about Video. I CAN offer video, but I need you to tell me *exactly* which run(s) you want me to video so I can mark it on the physical copy I keep of the running order. Otherwise I absolutely will forget to video your dog - these trials are very long, yet at the same time things move very quickly, and it is genuinely hard for me to snap out of my monotonous rhythm of photo-taking, so it’s best not to just leave me with “oh just take some here and there” no my squirrel brain needs specific, concrete, written instructions 🤣 As of this month my website does allow me to upload video and watermark them for previewing 🥳 Right now, untouched Videos are $25 each.

The weather wasn’t on my side for this event and, understandably, not a lot of dogs ended up running on the CAT field. Any purchase big or small is much appreciated, check out the earlybird discount I am offering (details in gallery)!

I think that’s a new record for how fast I’ve edited a day’s worth of images - I didn’t take many 😂 but in all seriousness, this heat is killer and I totally understand and respect people who forfeited their dog’s CAT runs today to just focus on FastCAT and not risk overheating their dogs with too much activity.

historically, for this event, I have only ever packed a shade tent if there was a risk of rain; I’ve always just braved the sun and usually don’t mind laying out in it uncovered! but this heat 😨 this is brutal. I actually went to bass pro this evening and bought a pop up hunting blind to use for the rest of the weekend because it was SO rough out there 🥵

Now that The Brightside - Dog Training & Boarding August Gallery is published I'll be working on video requests for the next week. These certainly take me a bit of time to go through so your patience is appreciated!

And on the topic of video, while I am happy to offer them at trials since my camera has the capability and I have gotten pretty comfortable with them, I'd love to put it out there that if a true professional, experienced videographer ever wants to offer video services at a trial where I am photographing, let's chat! I'd love to be able to focus on my photography and also give competitors the option to have video (especially from someone who knows what they are doing LOL)

The Brightside - Dog Training & Boarding August Event Gallery - Timeline

>> I do not have a solid expectation of a release date right now for this gallery. Each year, the August event proves to be the most challenging gallery to shoot & edit because the sun sets earlier and goes down in conjunction with the event. It will take me more time than usual.

The Why for my curious folks:
- The combination of bright sunspots and dark shadows that cover the dock as the sun sets behind the trees are brutal. Dogs jump up, they are illuminated by golden light. Dogs descend from their jump, they are cast into dark shadow. In many photos their bodies are half lit, half dark. And the background behind them - intensely backlit, which creates a ton of awkward contrast. Bulk editing a gallery like this is a NIGHTMARE🥲

I also want to set the expectation that I had to cull heavier than usual on these sets of photos. Keeping focus on dogs for the entirety of their jump in this scenario is tough. Think of when you walk from a very dark room into the outdoors where the sun is shining or vice versa - your eyes need a moment to adjust, you can’t see immediately. My camera deals with this as the dogs are jumping in this very spotty lighting, and it has to overcome it in milliseconds - these dogs fall FAST. While it’s pretty good, it still takes a moment, and sometimes in that moment of transition from super bright to super dark it looses focus on the subject. The subject seems to disappear until the auto-ISO catches up, adjusts to where the dog is visible again, and grabs back onto it. All this happens SO fast and sometimes I lose the focus entirely.

I just like to be transparent on expectations. This won’t be my usual ultra-fast turnaround time. The images aren’t going to look the same as images taken on a day where it was cloudy or taken in the middle of the day when the sun wasn’t glaring onto the dock through tree branches. I will be spending the time I need to spend to make them look as good as I possibly can.
