In 2001, Kendall and her sister had the opportunity to go see the US Open Tennis in Flushing Meadows, NY. They met up and had a blast site seeing and watching great tennis. One of the highlights of their trip was traveling by ferry from Battery Park to Ellis Island. It was a gorgeous day to see the New York skyline and climb the Statue of Liberty. Kendall had a Point and Shoot camera loaded with 35mm film and was photographing the City because it was so dramatic. Believe it or not, she doesn’t shoot a lot of photos but this day she had a camera and felt compelled to capture the skyline. Coming back from the Statue of Liberty, they considered going up to the top of the Towers. But, time was not on their side. They had spent longer than they anticipated on Ellis Island and both of them had a night time tennis match to make. Less than a week later, Kendall was safely back home when the seemingly impossible happened. It still seems surreal to look at this photo and realize the significance - she had caught one of the last images of the Twin Towers before 911.

Every year around this time, we print several 4” x 6” prints of this photo and give them away at the lab. If you would like one just stop by the lab. This year we also made some stickers.

Awesome Art of Coastal Carolina University by Cara Leverette Art
