My niece Kayla is going into her senior year of high school which means… senior photos! We were down at Rehoboth Beach for her 17th summer and my 40th. I’ve been photographing her down in this sand- this exact same sand- since she was 1.

As the fun aunt, I have tried to fill our family vacations with magic. Over the years, I staged elaborate pirate treasure chest hunts and declared it mermaid day with custom shell crowns and sparkles. I documented it all along the way.

As you dive into these photos, I want you to see her as I do. To me, she is mermaids, treasure chests, rainbows, bubbles and butterfly kites. She is lollipops and dune grass, sandcastles and sunsets. She is magic.

I’m photographing so many rites of passage this Spring! I photographed twin boys celebrating their bnai mitzvah one weekend and twin girls receiving their First Communion the next. Although I have a lot of “side-by-side, looking at the camera and smiling” photos, I think I like these two the best.

You know what's awesome about working with David Nazario's team at https://apbentertainment.com? The mic always works! No really. I mean, yes, the dance floor is full. It's all very fun. But you know what happens at weddings ALL the time? The father of the bride (or maid of honor or best man) goes to give their speech, and then... nothing. Maybe there's a screech of feedback. They tap the mic. The DJ scrambles. They wind up trying to shout. That just never happens with this company. The father of the bride made a beautiful comparison to the song "Our House" by Crosby, Stills and Nash in his toast. Then, after the cake was cut, the DJ played the song. It was a beautiful little touch- so subtle, so personal. And you could hear every word.
