{I can’t make this any shorter, so please continue into comments.}
Before we decide to send the US military to target the Black Lives Matter movement and silence protesters. Let’s take a step back and think about how our country has treated black military veterans. Here is just a brief history of extreme violence and injustice against our black veterans that fought for our freedoms. I am only going to address time from the Civil War to WWII.
I will start by referencing Targeting Black Veterans: Lynching in America, “Between the end of Reconstruction and the years following World War II, the experience of military service for African Americans often inflamed an attitude of defiant resistance to the status quo that could prove deadly in a society where racial subordination was violently enforced. All throughout the American South, parts of the Midwest, and Northwest dozens of black veterans died at the hands of mobs and persons acting under the color of official authority; many survived near-lynchings; and thousands suffered severe assaults and social humiliation.”
So basically to be a soldier is to receive training in weapons, in organizations, in tactics: the skills of self-assertion. It is also to lay claim to the reverence that America sets aside for its former warriors. This terrified white America.
Just one terrifying example from the years after the civil war.
“At Bardstown in Nelson County, Kentucky, a mob brutally lynched a United States Colored Troops veteran,” we learn. “The mob stripped him of his clothes, beat him, and then cut off his s*xual organs. He was then forced to run half a mile to a bridge outside of town, where he was shot and killed.”
After the First World War black veterans were denied the benefits and disability pay they had been promised. Whites speculated they must have enjoyed wartime s*x with French women making them “dangerously lustful” for white women. In the years following the war 13 black veterans were lynched and dozens more survived whippings beatings, and shootings.
There is so much more but let’s continue to WWII. The war that gains so much pride for our country,

Hellloooo!! It’s us! My hair is not in a bun and Erin is still sporting his handle bar mustache from Halloween. Once again our favorite photographs of us are taken by our children. Our 7.5 year old daughter took this photo while we were all enjoying a bit of outdoor time before the dreaded 5pm sunset. Where bedtime takes 3 hours now instead of 2🙄. As I mentioned in our last post we just finished our TENTH year in business!! 😱 202 weddings, over a million photos shot & edited, 40+ publications, and countless friends made. As we move into a new decade we can’t help but reflect on the joy, love, patience, fun, and excitement we feel from every client we have ever photographed. Did I mention they are patient? 😬🤗That balance is hard y’all! 10 years and it’s always a feast or famine. It’s always a Monday and a Friday. It’s always stressful but grateful. It’s all rolled into one big ball of mushy love. Love of the actual photo taking. Love of art. Love of being available for our children. Love of being just plain old in love with each other. Thank you to all our clients, vendors, friends & family for believing in our work! Here’s to as many more years as we can hold a camera to our eyes and hearts. ❤️

I’m Using the word “tent” lightly here... 😉 We ended our 10th wedding season on a high, shooting our 202 wedding since we officially started our business. We actually finished with 2 weekends in a row at the end of October. Both spent with our favorite gals over producing 2 amazing weddings for 2 ridiculously rad couples (both of whom were at each others weddings!) We now feel completely satisfied with our work, our ability to capture so much joy and beauty, to work within the tightest timelines, know when we need to delicate or bring on extra teammates to capture photos with us. The back end and post is still always a work in progress as cameras, software, and our family always evolves and the balancing act is never simpatico with our easy going personalities... But All the friendships we have made with so many vendors and couples over the last 10 years is so beyond words! We mean it always when we say how we are for this “job” ( I’ll use that word lightly too😉)

I was debating between a million different photos that showed how amazingly badass this bouquet is by as Each angle was as gorgeous as the next. I chose this one because I also just enjoy the candid moments that were surrounding it. Don’t worry you will be seeing ALOT of this wedding with all the angles and all the joy! Planning badassery by
