creativity looks different to everyone.
so does courage.
so does authenticity.
ive been “creative” my entire life. nothing that already existed was ever good enough. i had to make something myself, something new that fit the idea in my head of whatever it was… over the years, my need for creativity has evolved from something i enjoyed to something i truly can’t live without. the whimsy of making something out of nothing, with letting your imagination run wild and just seeing what happens. no rules, just a string of thoughts and ideas that twist and turn and loop from one to the next.
ive also been “courageous” my entire life. from growing up a tiny little daredevil that had to hang and keep up with (and beat) the boys, to speaking my mind on important things even when it could have been detrimental to me, to trying to build a business from nothing, with no real plan or experience to start, because nothing else felt right. (some people might call that dumb lol).. and lately courage has felt like doing outrageous things just for the fun of the whole process, that other people might not get, or even hate… and for some reason that’s been scarier than most other “courageous” things ive done.
which leads us to authenticity. this has been one ive struggled with for a long time. not in the way i engage and show up for people (that’s always been easy)… but in the way i showed up for myself. i always felt the need to fit into the little boxes that society makes for us. from the way i dress, to the way i work and edit, to literally everything else. because for a long time, masking myself and being accepted by everyone felt important to growing as a business owner. how backwards is that!? so somewhere in the past few months and leading up to my birthday in august, ive made it a priority to stop caring so much about what other people think of me, and care more about what i think of me. if im happy with what im wearing and what im doing and who im surrounding myself with. its funny how things change as we get older. we always think of it as “aging” but its really a lot more like growing instead.
