Long before the " woo -woo " noise showed up in Nashville and " lower Broadway " in particular, The Grand Ole Opry and Tootsie's Orchid Lounge " were among the few music 🎶 venues downtown ...

Whatever your desire, furniture, peep shows , automobiles, shoesshines, day workers , feed store ,rub and tug , I saw it all , and photographed from the point of view as practice, seeing and executing quickly 😀 1-2 snaps ...

The Resevoir is for " South Nashville Homies " like me that rode bikes and other adventures as kids around this structure , be advised you might need a " day pass " to come into the neighborhood again ...

All photographs were made in Nashville late 60's-early 70's except The Resevoir

TBT- When Getty Images drops on you your life's work of photography unexpectedly that I had not seen nor thought of in over 40 years ...

It brings to mind more stories than one human could image.

The collection of photographs I made over those years is validation that my mother would have been proud as promised before her passing in '71

G2 deemed shooting for Ebony Magazine was legit work anybody else ok 👍... if I was going somewhere questionable he would say " boy you crazy and looking to get killed " and it wasn't a war theater ...

Out of all the photographs I've snapped, these are worthy of fame as a " Black Photographer " stories are historically relevant, strong and captivating

A number are made 68 - 73 while a student in Nashville and the " Sip " as a budding professional freelance photographer ...

Take a minute to figure out what I want to be known for as a " Black Photographer "

I have a ton of historical photographs that compete on many levels that address " Art and Politics "

Interestingly, during my career as a freelance photographer from 68 - 82 , no one that I recall requested a " Black Photographer " for any of the national or international publications I shot for via the agency or someone I solicited ...

After being trained by sensei Bobby Sengstacke on how to prepare a portfolio for editorial work I made the trek to NYC for sit downs with Howard Chapnick at Black Star Picture Agency because he had sold an unsolicited take to New York Magazine .../

In our conversation he thought I was " raw " and needed refining and the solution was for me to intern under Gordon Parks at Life Magazine, apparently he had made a request , he informed me when Life closed , " I don't know what that will do for your career , but good luck ...

I had signed on with Gamma/Liaison bec ause I had a tearsheet that credited my photos , George Walker lll/Black Star Picture Agency, agencies at the time were always looking to poach talent ...

On my tour of picture editors, all were looking for someone available and willing t o cover the south which was dangerous for someone of colour to travel the roads back in the day , d 1ay or night ...

I said I can and will, opportunities were provided to execute I did and as a result I got called on for quite a few big events ...

My work is about Politics and Art , if you don't know the politics in the images , more than likely you can say that's a damn good snap 👌...

You're seeing 👀 a couple of gigs that most should remember ...

For the learned ones, please help me understand what " Black Photography " is , melanin or black content only ?

I have a lot of melanin and content outside the expected norm ..
