Everyone will have their own opinion, but I’ve always felt Angkor Wat was unlucky not to be included among the New Seven Wonders of the World. The scale and craftsmanship of this 10th‑century temple complex are extraordinary — a masterpiece of architecture and devotion that easily stands alongside the world’s greatest monuments.

The Madagascar girdled lizard (Zonosaurus madagascariensis), also known as the Madagascar plated lizard, is a common, active reptile found across Madagascar, nearby islands, and parts of the Seychelles. Growing up to 30 cm (12 inches) long, it features smooth, plated scales and spends its days basking on logs or foraging.

If I had to choose a favourite set of sculptures, I think I’d have to pick the Kelpies in Scotland. Inspired by the shape‑shifting aquatic spirits of Scottish folklore, these towering horse heads pay tribute to the kelpies said to haunt rivers and streams, appearing most often in the form of a powerful, untamed horse.

The Temple of Philae is a breathtaking ancient Egyptian complex near Aswan, and it’s every bit as impressive at night as it is in daylight. Dedicated primarily to the goddess Isis, the entire temple was painstakingly relocated, stone by stone, to nearby Agilkia Island in the 1970s as part of a UNESCO rescue effort — a monumental project undertaken to save it from the rising waters created by the Aswan dams.

My yearly dose of aviation usually comes from the Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford — a tradition I’ve looked forward to for as long as I can remember. With this year’s show cancelled due to world events, I’ve been revisiting old photographs instead. This shot of the Saudi Arabian aerobatic team is from a past Air Tattoo, and it brings back all the noise, colour and excitement I’ve been missing.
