It’s been a hard year.
Between being your own boss & navigating adulthood, you fight the stigma that work life balance doesn’t exist, trying to prove to yourself daily it can happen. But maybe it doesn’t. The balance beam always leans a little on the side of overworked, guilt, and chasing more. The days I do rest look more like recovery than delight… savor.. and just when I dip my toes into total oasis, I wonder how long I can stay.
I catch myself relishing in the still moments behind my camera when photographing stories for people. I feel the most alive.. present. I take it all in. I look back on all the assignments that turned into the most special memories where I was cradled in beautiful light on the water, sounds of laughter between loved ones, fresh air. All of my senses on guard… I don’t want to miss the moment. Because the photos don’t replace the memory for me… they take me back. They take me back to my comfort level, whether I felt welcome or nervous, timid & afraid, alive or… cold. I sit and wonder what others feel when they see a photo of mine. Where it takes them in their mind & body. They always take me to a familiar place.
My goal from here on out is to continue to create, but this time… boldly. From a new place. Challenging myself to find inspiration in the world and away from the screens. This verse has been sticking like honey lately… always sweet. “For everything there is a season…” Ecclesiastes 3:1
& I feel something new coming.
