I'm reposting the words of a fellow classmate, Shelby Meyerhoff who summed up the experience I had while taking the 32nd Atelier class at the Griffin Museum of Photography . Hope you will zoom in.
During the early months of the pandemic, the Griffin Museum of Photography's Atelier program was a spiritual and artistic lifeline for me. Every Tuesday, I would join with other photographers to show the work we had made that week, led by our teacher Meg Birnbaum and assistant Susan Green.
We were all living under lockdown, and it permeated the different images we made, and yet we spent only a little time talking about the pandemic itself. It was a relief to simply look at beautiful photographs for three hours, to be reminded that there was still wonder, and community. And everyone in the group was so experienced and talented, I wanted to bring my best to class every week, and I was grateful for the chance to be with them in the midst of crisis.
Now a selection of photographs from our semester is on view at the Griffin Museum, through September 27, by appointment. The show also includes a virtual reception this Sunday, September 13, 4pm-6pm; and an artists' talk featuring my classmates Simone Brogini, Miren Etcheverry, and Conrad Gees, on Thursday, September 24, 7pm-8:30pm.
