October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast cancer affects people from different ages, backgrounds, and communities. According to METAvivor, 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in the US, and 1 in 3 of those will end up with metastatic (Stage 4) breast cancer. Additionally, METAvivor states that “only 2 - 5% of money for breast cancer research is dedicated toward understanding metastatic breast cancer [MBC].” Recently, I took the photos above of Lindsay, a survivor with MBC. This photo session was for her birthday—a day she was unsure if she would reach. Advances in medicine are critical to the longevity and quality of life for people like her. If you would like to spread hope and support research for MBC, you may donate through this METAvivor fundraising page created by Lindsay.
