5 wedding-day portraits to get on your special day:

1 - A kiss under the veil. I love this photo of Maddy and Caleb, with the sunlight peeking out from the trees from behind.

2 - The recessional. Maria and Joey's photo here was staged with their bridal party. You could also include family, friends, and have a larger group in the shot. This is such a fun photo to have and look back on!

3 - Slow dancing. Ava and Ian have a great slow dance photo, with focus on the bride looking at her new husband.

4 - Standard portrait. Don't forget to get a standard portrait! Your mom will probably want this one framed. 😉

5 - This last one is a creative shot, I brought the camera low to the ground and held the bride's veil right up to the camera, which creates a unique angle. Angling up towards the top of the church building is almost symbolic, as it points up to Heaven above. Great photo of Simon & Liz!

Throwback to Maria and Joey's wedding. It was an honor to photograph this wedding. Maria and Joey are patient, intentional, and genuinely prayerful people.

I also had the opportunity to shoot their engagement photos, and one of the things I remember most about that day was how important it was for them to include photos in the adoration chapel. It was truly meaningful and important to them.

Their wedding at The Shrine of St. Martin of Tours, Louisville, KY here in Louisville was my first traditional Latin Mass wedding, and it was beautiful. There's a stillness and reverence to it that I wasn't fully prepared for. The kind of ceremony that makes you slow down.

Maria and Joey, thank you for including me on your very special day. Wishing you both a lifetime of joy. 🙏

10 years ago VS now.

One lesson I've learned over the years: when you're trying something new (such as photography)... you're probably going to suck at first. If you want to master the craft, you need to learn discipline. And I suppose that's why I'm grateful I picked up a camera years ago, because that discipline bleeds into other areas of life as well.

A lot has changed in the past ten years. I don't think the guy in the first photo would have predicted most of what life looks like now, or how far his little photography hobby would actually go.

For my Catholic friends - here's 5 important photos to get on your wedding day:

1 - The First Look
The moment a groom sees his bride for the first time is filled with raw emotion. It's one of my favorite moments to capture.

2 - The Vows
Your vows are spoken in a single moment but meant to last a lifetime. Make sure your photographer is ready to capture every emotion on both your faces.

3 - The Elevation
At the Elevation of the Eucharist, heaven and earth meet, and having your photographer capture this moment places your marriage within the context of your faith. It's a powerful reminder that Christ is at the center of your union from the very beginning.

4 - The First Kiss
Your first kiss as husband and wife marks the beautiful conclusion of the Rite of Marriage. It's a timeless image to cherish forever.

5 - Going Forth
Proceeding out of the church, you step into a new life together, surrounded by the cheers and prayers of family and friends. This photo captures the joy and momentum of two souls sent forth, hand in hand, to live out their vocation.

Louisville, in case you are planning on popping the question soon... 💍 Here's 3 of my favorite engagement photo locations in the area:

1) Belvedere Plaza - It's right by the river and you will get a variety of beautiful backgrounds all in one location. If you're local, you know that there are often events in this spot, so it's probable that you may also have some memories here as a couple. I would recommend early morning or golden hour before sunset to capture that beautiful light over the river, and, you likely won't have as much foot traffic. Love the photos I took of Snigdha and Matthew here!

2) Norton Commons (Located in Prospect) - This is a great option for romantic engagement photos. It has a little bit more of a "small town" feel compared to the downtown aesthetic of Belvedere Plaza. The parks, gardens and greenery all make for great backgrounds. Brett and Helene look lovely here! Definitely a location that is worth considering.

3) Cherokee Park - Plenty of beautiful photo opportunities here for a classic/timeless look. The park is gorgeous with each season (especially in the Fall), and there are lots of great backdrops here. Love these photos of Sarah and Ben!

BONUS 4th option: The church that you are planning to get married at.

A few of the couples that I have done engagement photoshoots for actually chose their wedding location for the engagement photos as well. I think it's a great idea that is also worth considering!

Almost exactly a year ago, in April of 2025, I met Ava. I was hired to do a professional photoshoot for a local business here in Louisville and she was an employee there.

Ava was so genuinely kind and just a great person to talk to. I went home that day to tell my wife about this very nice young Catholic girl and we were trying to think of someone to set her up with.

Little did I know that a year later, I would be photographing Ava and Ian’s wedding.

Something that I truly love about photography is the people that it allows me to connect with.

I’ve had several opportunities to meet some very good people through different photoshoots, and it’s so amazing to watch their lives unfold from something like professional headshots to photographing their wedding.

Every single wedding that I have photographed has been an honor to be a part of, and this day was very special because Ava and I became fast friends.

It was an intimate wedding at St. Louis Bertrand Catholic Church. And it was beautiful.

Thank you Ava and Ian for allowing me to be part of your special day! Congratulations to you both, and wishing you both a lifetime of happiness.

Grooms in prayer, preparing to meet their brides.

These kinds of quiet moments before the wedding begins are always so special. I can feel the positive, yet nervous energy, which as far as I'm concerned is the excitement that comes with following God's will and responding to His call to live your vocation.
