Ran into this gal while downtown with my camera a few weeks ago! Check out this fun & fresh New Bern experience!
New Bern has 300 years of history and there’s PLENTY to look at, learn from, and talk about. That’s why places like the trolly, Tryon Palace, and Ghost Tours are such a staple for New Bern visitors! If you include boat tours, non profits, organizations, and the city‘s events, it’s easy to plan a FULL vacation downtown.
I hope that with Bear Feet Street Tours now offering dedicated historical walking tours, we’re contributing to New Bern as a destination of experiences — not somewhere to stop for lunch on the way to the beach, but a vacation in itself to be booked with intention, anticipation, and joy.
If you choose to include a Bear Feet Street Tour with your visit (and I hope you do) here’s a quick overview of who I am as your guide, and what the BFST experience is like.
👩🏼🎓 Bachelor of Arts degree - Spanish Education
📚 Master of Arts degree - Secondary Teacher Leadership
👩🏼🏫 5 years in the public classroom, 4 years in higher education, 1 year as director of a college access grant.
I’m an educator to my core and it absolutely shows. I learned to be authentic, engaging, accurate, and a bit theatrical. (Because if you’re less than that in the public classroom, the kids will eat you alive. 😂) As your guide, you’re getting someone experienced in delivering a memory, not just facts and figures.
🥃 My first “big kid” job was Maker’s Mark Distillery. I took a gap year after college and worked as a bourbon specialist in Loretto, KY. Back then part of the application process was a personality test. To be selected you needed to score in the right kind of traits (and in the right kind of balance). They were the first people to go “hey, this girl would make a good tour guide!” and, I guess I believed them. 😉
👣 I give walking tours. For the first two years I lived in New Bern, I walked to work on Middle St from my house on Johnson St. I know there are details, nuances, and surprises only to be found…. on foot.
