This is why I do photography the way I do. ❤️

I don’t want to just take your pictures, hand you a bunch of digitals and send you on your way.

I want to help you actually DO something with them.

So many special moments from Simply Me, Hill Country Kids Art Gallery. ❤️

This gallery was created to celebrate some pretty amazing Hill Country kids exactly as they are, full of personality, joy, sweetness, silliness and all the little expressions their families never want to forget.

But this project was also created for an even bigger purpose: to give back to local foster care organizations doing such important work for children and families right here in our community, including 1HOPE for Kids, CASA and SJRC Texas/Belong.

Seeing these kids proudly standing next to their portraits was pretty incredible. Knowing that this evening also helped raise money and awareness for children and families in foster care made it even more meaningful.

A huge thank you to Kathy Alene Photography for capturing these images for us. 📸 Having Kathy there allowed Lara, Sabrina and me to step out from behind the camera and truly be present with the kids, their families and everyone who came out to support this special evening.

And thank you to every family, sponsor, donor and friend who showed up, gave, shared and cheered this project on. You weren’t just supporting an art gallery. You were helping us love on kids, celebrate families and give back to organizations serving children in foster care throughout our community. ❤️

This is exactly what we hoped Simply Me could become.

What a night. ❤️📸

Last night’s Simply Me: Hill Country Kids Art Gallery was such a meaningful celebration of children, community and giving back.

This special event brought three photographers together with one shared purpose: to honor some pretty amazing Hill Country kids and use our photography to support local foster care charities and the children and families they serve.

One of my favorite moments was watching the kids walk into the gallery and find their own portrait displayed on an easel as art. Their faces said everything.

Because this night was about so much more than photographs.

It was about helping kids feel seen, celebrated and important. It was about families coming together. It was about local businesses showing up with generous hearts. And it was about using art to make a difference right here in our community.

We absolutely could not have done this without our incredible sponsors. To every business, individual, donor, volunteer and friend who sponsored, donated, printed, provided items, gave time or helped bring this gallery to life, thank you. Your generosity made this night possible. ❤️

And to every family who trusted us with your children and became part of Simply Me, thank you. It was an honor to celebrate your kids in such a special way.

A gallery full of amazing kids.
An incredible community.
And one night I’ll never forget.

They’re “just photos” until they aren’t.

Years ago, I took a photograph of our Naomi.

At the time, I had no idea it would be the last one.

I didn’t know that one day I would look at that image differently. That it wouldn’t just be a photograph anymore. It would become a piece of our story. A reminder of her face, her spirit, her place in our family and the love we never want to forget.

That’s why I believe so deeply in creating artwork of the people you love.

Not just images that live on a phone.

Not just files that get buried in a folder.

But artwork you can walk past every day. Artwork your children see on the walls. Artwork that says, “You belong here. You are loved. You matter.”

We never know which photograph will become the one we’re most grateful for.

So take the photograph.

Print it.

Frame it.

Hang it where your heart can see it.

I don’t say this to make you sad. I say it because I know what it feels like to be grateful that the photograph exists. And I want that for you, too.

Dance party first. Then “1, 2, 3, jump!”

This is why I don’t ask kids to sit still and force a smile. I want the movement, the giggles, the silly faces and the real personality.

Because this is the kind of portrait parents look at and say, “That is SO her.”

The “don’t smile” game never fails.

I tell them very seriously not to smile, and somehow that’s exactly when the giggles show up.

Simply Me portraits are designed to capture the expressions, personality and little details parents never want to forget.
