My mother smiled the second I entered the courtroom, as if she had already won.
My brother sat beside her in his expensive suit, whispering, “She’ll fold before this even starts.”
For years, they had called me weak. Useless. Ungrateful. They told everyone I was the failure of the family, while my brother was the one worth investing in.
But that morning, I didn’t come to beg.
I came with evidence.
When the judge opened my file, his face suddenly changed.
“Victoria Owens?” he asked, looking straight at me. “The same Victoria Owens who won the Vanguard Scholarship three years ago?”
The courtroom went silent.
My mother’s smile vanished.
My brother froze.
For the first time, their perfect lie cracked in front of everyone.
