Earlier this month I was able to attend the NDA Workshop led by power duo & in New Orleans. I learned so much from them, my fellow cohort of photographers and the NOLA community that welcomed me in with so much love. I was fortunate enough to get in touch with via who invited me to document young Palestinian organizers with . It was truly a life changing experience!! Thank you .io for the help with funding the NDA Workshop and the grants to attend.
Here I present the photos I showcased at the end of the NDA Workshop as they were presented. I’ll have a PDF up soon on my website for larger viewing. Thank you again to the Palestinian community in NOLA for being so warm and welcoming! 💜🥹 I hope these images can be used to uplift the amazing work you are all doing. ✊🏾🙏🏾🇵🇸
BUILDING A MOVEMENT IN NOLA by Nick DeRenzi.
New Orleans, LA - Local Palestinian organizers from the New Orleans area have begun the process of joining the Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM), a national organization, to advocate for the local Palestinian community. In the greater New Orleans area, the community is made up of mostly immigrants from Palestine or first generation Palestinian - americans. Young Palestinian organizers aspire to open a local PYM chapter to help build a movement of young Palestinians to advocate for themselves in the New Orleans area. Currently their focus is on growing their membership, growing the skill of dedicated organizers and doing outreach to their community on the PYM campaigns to end the genocide in Gaza. In the lead up to the one year mark of the current genocide in Gaza, PYM organizers have used multiple tactics to bring in community to their work in hopes of member growth. Adan, a PYM organizer, helped bring San Francisco based muralist Chris Gazaleh to Gretna, known as the West Bank of New Orleans, to paint a mural for the community. ✨CON’T IN COMMENTS✨
