We officially hit the road to today! Just call me Jen, Juneau Alaska photographer 👋

The last few years of photographing families, couples and weddings in New Orleans has been quite the journey. I've learned quite a lot about myself, running a business and how to find light, beauty and joy in a season of my own personal life that didn't feel bright, beautiful or joyful. I am so grateful to everyone who has trusted me, left me reviews, given me feedback and allowed me into important and personal moments to make sure they can remember them forever. Simultaneously, I was creating my own moments to remember forever. Thank you, New Orleans. On to Juneau 🏔🤍✨

I photographed this family a couple of years ago when they were a party of 4 and the oldest kiddos were much smaller. Then I captured momma's belly. Then I got to photograph this little sweet pea.

My NOLA chapter is closing, and I'd be lying if I said it wasn't bittersweet. 248 families over the last few years 🥹 Some of you just kept letting me come back, and I never stopped being grateful for that. Watching families grow, freezing both big and small moments, has been one of the greatest privileges of this job.

This sweet girl is the third in this perfect little fam. And she's a perfect way to end this season for me. 🤍

From start to finish, Melacy + Sunny's day was done their way which meant 1000 paper cranes, a timeline that breatheeeeddd and GOATS. Consider this your permission to make your day everything you want, even if that's not what everyone else is doing. (And ESPECIALLY if that includes the most perfect, earring-eating baby freaking goats.)

You’re allowed to document ordinary moments in extraordinary places. These little moments in between a posed photo is where the magic of your people lives. Even with Juneau Alaska as your background, I believe your best photos come from a collective loosening of the grip on expectations. Think: interacting, movement, laughter, real connection, no forcing it. Together over perfect. Presence over posed. If you want photos that feel like THAT, I’ll be back in Alaska this summer waiting for you.

Hot take: extended family sessions can actually be fun. Sure, coordinating nine people's schedules is a special kind of chaos but just looooook at the love and joy in these photos 🥹

Extended family sessions get the same attention, intention and silly prompting that I bring to every session. If you've got a family reunion, a holiday visit, or a "everyone's finally in the same place" miracle coming up, and you're ready to just *be* with your people, let's make something worth printing big.

Sorry not sorry. Those photos you love were probably prompted by a photographer. But they were probably not precisely posed either. The only thing all of those photos you love have in common is that the people in them forgot about the photo shoot, let go of the idea of smiling because they were being photographed and just existed with their people to in the moment.

If you want permission to spend an hour or so with your people, enjoying life in one of the most beautiful places on earth, then I’m the Juneau Alaska photographer for you 🫶🏼

Just a little PSA to let you know there is no right way to take your family photos 🫶🏼 No one needs to smile on cue (not even dad). No one needs to feel like they’re faking it. Kids can move, parents can relax and we can let the good stuff happen without forcing it. Loud fun, fart jokes and imperfections are all allowed here.
