You book a newborn session before the baby comes.

That surprises people, so I'll explain it. A newborn session happens in a window — usually the first two weeks, when they still curl the way they did on the inside. I can't move that window. Your baby decides when it opens.

So we don't book a date. We reserve your due date, and then I hold the days around it, and we sort out the exact one when baby arrives via text or email. That's the whole system.

Which means if you're due in October, November, or December, this is the part where you reach out. Not after. Nobody has ever regretted arranging it early, and I have had a lot of conversations with exhausted parents at day nineteen who wish they had.

This is the whole idea, in three lines.

One child, $95. Three children, $95. Five children, $95.

School picture day charges you per child and then sells you a package per child on top of it. I don't. You book one ten-minute slot; every child gets photographed on their own, you get one of them together, and the price is the price.

If you have four or more, book two slots back-to-back — twenty minutes instead of ten, and both deposits go toward the same package.

Wednesday 16 and Thursday 17 September, 9:00 to 2:00, at The Croix Studio in New Richmond.

Saturday, November 7. Write it down.

That's the last session date I can photograph and still get holiday cards into your hands in time to mail them.

It isn't a sales tactic; it's arithmetic. Session, then your gallery, then printing, then the evening you sit at the kitchen table addressing envelopes with a glass of wine and the good pen. All of that has to fit before the second week of December. November 7 is where it stops fitting.

And if you want the leaves in the picture, you're working to a much earlier date than that — October 18, and four days before it.

Comment 'book' and I'll send you a link to book your family session.

Can you see it...Fall is nearly here. With our lack of rain, I'm not sure how long our beautiful fall colors will last.

Peak color along the St. Croix runs from about September 26 to October 18, and I photograph one family a day. Half of the weekend days already have a family on them. What's left is October 3, October 11, October 17, and October 18. I do have some weekday evenings available as well.

I'm not saying that to hurry anyone. I'm saying it because people message me on October 20th every year, and we're already past peak.

If a fall photo is happening for your family this year, now is when it gets decided. Message me, and I'll tell you what's open.

What actually happens in a newborn session, since nobody tells you.

You arrive late. That's fine — everybody does, and I build it in.

The studio is about 80 degrees, because a warm baby is a settled baby. You'll be warmer than you want to be. We feed on arrival rather than before you drive, because a full sleepy baby is the whole game.

Then we stop. Constantly. To feed, to settle, to change everything, because she waited until she was fully unwrapped. Most sessions run sixty to ninety minutes, and a good half of that is waiting, and the waiting is not wasted time — it's where the good frames come from.

Peeling skin, baby acne, a healing cord, a stork bite, jaundice: normal, common, and all handled in editing. Please don't reschedule over any of it, and please don't apologize for it.

I have never once had a session ruined by a baby being a baby.

If you're currently expecting, let's get you booked! Comment 'expecting' and I'll send you a consult link to see if I'm a good fit.

With a new ruling about AI created images being protected if they are in your home. This is what this is regarding. I don't have all the details. I don't have the law in front of me that was created. I just know that I am doing the research and I'm talking with the creative community to get more information and to see how we're moving forward as a community with us.

I would love to have more conversation with this and with you about this and where everyone's comfort level is and what you guys think.
