There is something so sacred about these first days.

The tiny cheeks.
The wisps of hair.
The way they stretch, sigh, and settle into your arms as if they've always belonged there… because they have.

And yet, before you know it, the newborn stage is gone.

I know because I've lived it too.

As moms, we spend months preparing for the arrival. We research car seats, organize tiny clothes, and dream about what our baby will look like. Then suddenly, they're here. Life becomes beautiful chaos. Days blur together. Sleep is scarce. And somehow, those impossibly tiny details begin to change before we're ready.

That's why newborn photography means so much to me.

Not because babies stay little forever.

But because they don't.

Years from now, these images become proof.

Proof of the way their lips curled.
Proof of how perfectly they fit in your arms.
Proof of the beginning of your family's next chapter.

And while we can't slow time…

Flaky skin.

Milk-drunk smiles.

The sleepy stretches.

The way they fit perfectly on your chest.

Those details disappear so quickly.

As a certified newborn photographer, safety always comes first.

No rushed sessions.

No forcing poses.

No expectations.

Babies lead the session.

Always.

Because these first days are sacred.

And honestly?

I still get emotional every time I hand parents their gallery.

Because I know these won't just be pictures.

Fun fact:

I wasn't born in Wisconsin.

I was born in Dover, Delaware.

I spent part of my childhood in California near March Air Force Base.

Eventually life brought me back to Wisconsin, where I built a family, planted roots, and somehow ended up living out a dream I didn't even know I'd have.

Now I get to serve families throughout Western Wisconsin and Eastern Minnesota.

New Richmond.

Hudson.

River Falls.

Stillwater.

Woodbury.

And beyond.

Little me never would've believed this life.

She would've thought owning a photography studio and helping families preserve memories sounded impossible.

But here we are.

Dreams don't always happen overnight.

Sometimes they happen one faithful step at a time.

I Almost Waited Too Long

Every year I hear the same thing:

"We meant to book family pictures."

"We kept meaning to schedule newborn photos."

"We thought we had more time."

Friend…

I have never once had someone say:

"I regret documenting this season."

But I've heard countless people say:

"I wish we had done it."

Time has a way of convincing us we'll have another year.

Another summer.

Another chance.

But children don't stay little.

And seasons don't wait for us.

I didn't start Alabaster Photos because I wanted to own a business.

I started because I wanted to remember.

That's it.

As a mom, I realized something heartbreaking:

We spend years pouring ourselves into our families…

But we're often missing from the pictures.

We're the ones taking them.

Organizing them.

Saving them.

But not appearing in them.

And someday our children won't care if we lost weight.

They won't care if the house was messy.

They won't care if our hair looked perfect.

They'll just want to see us.

Holding them.

Laughing with them.

Loving them.

That's my why.

Not perfect images.

Not trends.

Not elaborate props.

Connection.

Because love photographs beautifully all by itself.

This probably sounds silly.

But one of my proudest moments recently involved mowing the lawn.

Not photography.

Not business.

Not awards.

The lawn.

For a long time, life felt overwhelming. Some days just getting through the day felt hard.

But recently I spent two uninterrupted hours on the lawn tractor.

And while I drove around our yard, I watched my girls riding bikes, running around, and waving to me.

They cheered me on like I was doing something amazing.

Maybe they didn't know they were witnessing healing.

But I did.

Sometimes success isn't a giant milestone.

Sometimes success is peace.

Sometimes success is finally feeling present enough to enjoy ordinary moments again.

And maybe that's why I photograph families the way I do.

Because the ordinary moments?

Those become extraordinary later.

The way your toddler reaches for your hand.

The missing front teeth.

The chaos.

The laughter.

The little things we think we'll remember forever.

Those are the things I want to preserve.
