🐾 Happy (belated) National Rescue Dog Day and welcome home, Ava!

Yesterday was National Rescue Dog Day, and we couldn’t have celebrated it better.

This past weekend we adopted Ava, a sweet girl who came to us from a rescue in Georgia thru Mississippi.

For years, she lived in a puppy mill, spending her days in a wire crate, bringing litter after litter into the world, her little paws so splayed from standing on wire her whole life.

And yet. She looks up at you like you hung the moon. Pure love. No resentment. No hesitation. Just joy.

She’s joining Max and Maisie, and she’s already learning the ropes (housebreaking is on the agenda 😄).

She wants nothing more than to be loved, and to give every bit of it back.

If you ever wonder whether rescue dogs “know” they’ve been saved, they do. Ava knows. And, I also think she saved me. ♥️

If you’re thinking about adding a pet to your family, please consider adopting.

There are so many Avas out there waiting for their moment.

An Evening of Connection at

On Sunday, I had the pleasure of gathering a group of incredible women for dinner at Verona American Grill, and I'm still so excited about it!

The room was full of women who didn't just show up to network, but to show up to genuinely connect.

And that's exactly what happened.

From the moment the evening started the conversation flowed.
The kind of conversation where you learn what someone is passionate about, what keeps them going, and how you might be able to support each other.

The food was fantastic, and by the end of the night it didn't feel like a networking dinner at all.

New friendships were made, ideas were exchanged, and I left feeling so grateful for every single person.

This is exactly why we do these gatherings.
Connection matters.
Community matters.

This won't be the last one.
If this sounds like your kind of evening, reach out.
I'd love to have you at the next one.

So excited you were there!

“Alissa’s professionalism & depth of expertise elevated my confidence. She is an amazing photographer capturing me in the best light. If a colleague said, “I’m considering getting a headshot.” I would say, ‘You have to do it with Alissa!’” That is what Jill Cusick, Head of OD for Corporate Functions and Enterprise Talent, and Leadership and Culture Consultant for Pfizer said about her headshot experience.

Jill holds two roles under the umbrella of HR but she began her career as a creative writer in advertising. In time, she transitioned into HR & organizational development. “My work has always been about understanding people, whether that’s from a creative standpoint in advertising or as a leader focused on culture, talent development, & organizational transformation. The most fulfilling part of my journey has been the ability to shape work environments where people thrive, evolve, & find purpose in what they do. I’ve had the privilege of working with incredible teams across various companies and industries grounded in the belief that people are our greatest asset.”

When asked to describe a transformational moment she replied, “Having children! Raising my now 13-year-old son and 11-year-old daughter has deepened my empathy. I now see every colleague as someone’s kid and realize that we all bring work home with us. This shift made me understand the importance of creating a healthy, supportive work environment.

As someone who’s been assertive in going after opportunities, I’ve been told no, more times than yes. But every no makes me push harder, because I believe in the values of persistence and perseverance.

My previous headshot was taken by my daughter years ago so it was time for an upgrade. Alissa was a wonderful guide leading the time I invested in myself. I realized afresh that even something as simple as a headshot, can have a lasting impact on how you show up. I enjoyed my session and love how she caught my essence in my headshots.”

This past year hasn’t just been about studying animal communication.

It’s also been doing my own work. Work on myself.

I’ve been part of a program with Jaye at Thought in Motion that’s asked me to slow down and pay attention in a different way.
To the moments.
The ones we usually move past too quickly.
The ones that don’t always feel comfortable.

Confidence and doubt. Clarity and confusion. Love and fear.

They’re all there, all the time.

What I’ve started to understand is this:
We shape our lives in those moments. Through what we focus on. Through what we choose to stay with or move away from.
And it’s easy to lose your way.

Distractions get louder. Doubt creeps in. You start focusing more on what’s not working than what is.

I know that path. I’ve been there.

What this work has given me is awareness. A different way of seeing. A way to come back to myself when I drift.

And that’s changed how I show up everywhere. Including in my work.

Because when someone steps in front of my camera, they’re bringing all of that with them.
The thoughts. The emotions. The stories they’ve been telling themselves.

My role isn’t to override it.
It’s to recognize it. To create space for it. To help them settle into something real.

Because when that happens, the photograph reflects it.
Not something performed. Something true.

Thank you, Jaye!

Family sessions matter to me for a very specific reason.

They’re not about perfect smiles.

They’re about preserving connection in the season you’re living right now.

The way someone leans in.
The quiet, unspoken language between people who love each other.

Those are the moments that pass the fastest.
And they’re the ones we think we’ll always remember.

Years from now, the photograph won’t just show what everyone looked like.

It will bring you back to what it felt like to be together.

That’s the part that matters.
And it’s never something I take lightly.

, I loved photographing your family!

I've been studying animal communication for the past year … and I’m finally ready to share it.

These past few weeks changed me personally and professionally. I was in an intensive with Joan Ranquet, renowned animal communicator, bestselling author, and TEDx speaker and I haven't stopped thinking about it.

And to be clear, I’m still very much a photographer. Always will be.
That’s not changing. It’s expanding.

I still lead from my heart and lean into the energy in the room when someone is in my studio. I've always been able to read the unspoken. That changes everything about what shows up in a photograph. But now I know the why. I know how to support it. My work has never started with the camera. It always started with connection. What this experience gave me is a deeper way to recognize that connection. To trust it. To stay with it.

Here's what that means in practice.

With families, that shows up in how I read a room. Knowing when to guide and when to go quiet. Sensing what's moving underneath what's being said.

With animals, it changes everything. Trust isn't something you can manufacture. It's something they feel. And the moment they feel it, you see it right there in the photograph.

Now I'm beginning the next phase.

I'll be completing 195 case studies across animal communication, emotional freedom technique, and scalar wave.

If any of this speaks to you, and you’re curious what a photography session feels like or whether a case study might be right for you, reach out. I’d love to talk.
(Case studies are offered at no cost, and can be done via Zoom.)

Please share with colleagues, friends & family. Thank you!

This is a picture of Sweetheart, the Donkey. She's in a sanctuary in California. I did Scaler Wave on her. 🩷
