I was saddened to learn of the death yesterday of Cristina Calderón, who was the last surviving member of the Yagan indigenous people of southern Chile to speak the native language. I was fortunate to spend time with Cristina at her home in Puerto Williams twice while filming stories about Patagonia and the Yagan people for , and even shared an expedition with her son. She was a treasure and figurehead in her community and she will be missed.

Throwback to our last Pristine Seas expedition to the Southern Line Islands north of Tahiti—some of the most remote atolls on the planet. We only had one opportunity to film on the small islets, or motus, around the central lagoon of Millennium Atoll. We crossed the entire emerald lagoon heading north from the southern channel, our only safe entrance, to meet botanist and conservationist Mike Fay who had been solo camping on the motus for days, documenting their flora and fauna. We arrived in the last light of sunset into an impressive swarm of mating terns. As soon as I set foot on land Mike was off into the vegetation and I followed to document these moments among the birds.

I am already blown away by the capabilities of the RED V-Raptor underwater. This is just one of many high frame rate tests I shot recently with the new V-Raptor housing in the Cayman Islands. 4K 240fps.

The Pristine Seas survey team takes count of fish, corals and algae on the reefs at Millennium Atoll in the Southern Line Islands. One part of a comprehensive biological survey, transects are critical for monitoring reef health and assessing damage and regrowth after the 2015/16 El Niño warming event. .ocean for

Best Conservation Short Film! I am thrilled that this important story is being recognized. Congrats to the whole team. Last December I was fortunate to travel to Kenya and film some of the most compelling stories I have worked on, celebrating leading female zebra and lion conservationists and the communities and ecosystems they are transforming. Proud that one of our shorts, Beyond the Boma about the important work of Sheila Funnell and Grevy’s Zebra Trust was just named best conservation short at the Jackson Wild festival. I am grateful to for the opportunity to help share these critical conservation and community stories with the world. Thank you for all you do. Congrats to and our amazing crew
