Trump is at it again—talking about sending federal troops into Los Angeles and San Francisco, even though courts already ruled that move illegal.
It feels like déjà vu. Last time, after immigration raids that terrified families and gutted small businesses, protests erupted. Instead of cooling things down, Trump sent in thousands of troops. A federal judge called it unlawful and said it caused more harm than good. Now he’s floating the same idea all over again.
At today’s Cabinet meeting he said troops should “come in and stop the crime” in Democratic-run cities, arguing locals can’t handle it. But those local leaders haven’t forgotten what happened: economic damage, communities living in fear, and soldiers on their streets making things worse. The courts agreed too, blocking his earlier takeover of California’s National Guard. Trump’s response? Attack the judges.
This isn’t really about safety—crime rates in cities like San Francisco have been improving without federal intervention. It looks more like a power move, testing the limits of federal authority and brushing up against constitutional and civil-rights concerns.
