Camera West San Francisco Update

We have officially moved out of our Walnut Creek location and are now setting up our new San Francisco flagship at 120 Maiden Lane.

We have experienced a delay with our cabinetry installation, which has pushed our soft opening to at least mid-next week. That said, shipping resumes today from Camera West San Francisco, and our team is available by phone at 925-935-1425 during normal business hours.

We look forward to welcoming you into the new space very soon. In the meantime, mark your calendars for our Grand Opening on March 27. More details to come!

Field Test: Brent // at our SoHo store took a quick moment (before half of these lenses went to new homes) to do a side-by-side comparison of some of our favorite fast 50s. From left to right: the Canon 50mm f0.95 “Dream Lens,” the Leica 50mm f1.2 (reissue), the Leica 50mm f1.0 (E58), and the modern 0.95 Noctilux. Swipe, in the same order, you’ll find a sample image from each lens to see how they stack up. We all have our personal favorites here at Camera West — which one’s yours?

Can half a frame be more than half the fun?
The new Fujifilm X Half has landed at Camera West, and we’re excited to take this one-of-a-kind digital camera out for a spin.

With its unique half-frame sensor, tactile controls, classic film simulations, and truly pocketable design, the X Half might just be the quirky, premium compact we’ve all been waiting for.

We’re curious, what are your thoughts on this little camera?
Would you choose the creative charm x quirkiness of a half-frame or stick with a full-frame feel like the X100VI or X-E5? Let us know in the comments below!

Could the Fujifilm X100VI be dethroned?
The Fujifilm X-E5 paired with the new XF 23mm f2.8 WR has arrived at Camera West, and our very own .underwood.photo had the opportunity to take it for a spin.

This compact combo shares a lot of the same DNA as the more advanced X-T5 and the beloved X100VI, yet the X-E5 stands on its own as a unique, premium mirrorless body. Don’t let its size fool you, the X-E5 features a powerful 40.2mp sensor, fast autofocus, and an interchangeable X-mount, giving you access to one of the best mirrorless lens ecosystems out there.

Max paired it with the all-new XF 23mm f2.8 WR, a subtle yet exciting successor to our team-favorite XF 27mm f2.8.

Head over to the Tools of Time blog to read Max’s first impressions and view a few of his sample images from this compact, capable kit. Contact us or head over to camerawest.com to order yours today!

If you caught our story earlier featuring , you might have spotted an unusual camera in hand—a Leica IIIG with an M-mount conversion. These are quite rare; in fact, this is only the second one we’ve ever had in our inventory.

This unique piece was modified by Norm Goldberg, the father of Don Goldberg, who is renowned for repairing vintage Leica cameras through DAG Camera Repair. Norm was famous for his inventive Leica modifications and creations, and this particular Leica IIIG features a converted M-mount, allowing it to pair with lenses like the 35mm Summilux Steel Rim. The result? A truly fun and quirky camera to use.

While not factory production items, many of Norm Goldberg’s creations were so innovative that Leica adopted some, such as the M2 Motor Drive, into regular production. Today, Don Goldberg continues his family's legacy, and we regularly entrust our vintage Leica repairs to him before offering these restored pieces through our website and stores.
